Grey - Arctic Fox Mercenary Group
After sending the photos to Lewis, William asked his assistant, "Have we found those few who entered Mapleville?"
The assistant replied, "No, our men lost a trace of them around here, which is unusual. This place isn't that big, but after those people entered, it was as if they stepped into another dimension and vanished completely. Not a trace can be found."
The assistant was perplexed. Those people purposefully fled to this location, with a high chance they intended to harm Valentina, the one who had saved Lewis.
Lewis had even prepared to negotiate with them.
But a night passed, and Valentina remained unscathed, while those people seemed to have evaporated from the face of the earth.
Could it be that their pursuers were so relentless that those people didn't have time to act and only minded their escape?
"Vanished? Don't make it sound so mysterious," William looked in the direction where Valentina disappeared. "Keep on the pursuit. We need confirmation whether they are dead or alive. Moreover, arrange more people to guard here, ensuring the girl's safety."
Valentina was a benefactor of the Felton Family. If those people hurt her, wouldn't it cast shame over the Felton Family?
By the way, Lewis gave her money, didn't he? How much did he give her? Why was she still living in such a place?
"Understood." The assistant remembered something, "By the way, Mr. William, a few hours ago, we spotted agents of 791 in the vicinity." 791 was a special force under the strongest mercenary assembly of Montavia - the Arctic Fox Mercenary Group.
William asked, "He?"
"He", referred to Grey - the Chief Manager of Legion 791.
What were Grey's men doing here?
It was surprising that a small place like Mapleville was fraught with layers of mystery.
"But they only appeared briefly and then left, like they were just passing through."
William ordered, "Find out what they're doing here."
"Yes."
Before leaving, William looked at the awful and dirty environment, gave it a thought, and instructed his assistant to call the mayor of Mapleville.
Upon learning William's identity, the mayor, Rory Howard, got so excited that he instantly stood up from his chair and dared not to sit back down, even though William couldn't see him.
His hands clutched the office telephone in trepidation.
"You can rest assured. I will definitely take good care of her."
"If you have any other requests, I will surely satisfy them."
After hanging up, Rory immediately asked his assistant to pull up Valentina's information. While waiting, he became restless in his study, wishing he could take matters into his own hands.
He thought about giving a personal visit to the Ricardo family with gifts.
Or to present the Ricardo family with a house or money under some other pretense.
However, the Felton Family warned him not to disturb the Ricardo family's life or provide any form of living assistance, only to look after Valentina.
Only if she needed help or encountered difficulties.
Only then did he suppress his desire to pay a visit.
He was too excited and flustered. Since the Felton Family asked him to care for Valentina, how could she possibly lack money or housing?
But from his memory, he didn't recall anyone in Mapleville, be it a successful person or a wealthy official, with the last name Ricardo.
At this moment, Rory was extremely curious about Valentina's identity.
It never occurred to him that in Mapleville, someone could actually have a connection with the Felton Family in Biddeford, even receiving personal care from them.
Who on earth was she?
Unable to calm down, Rory decided to come downstairs and saw his prodigal son sauntering back from outside.
Without a doubt, he had been whiling away his time outdoors for the whole day.
"You rascal! Mr. Wright has gone back to Biddeford. What on earth were you up to? I asked you to accompany Mr. Wright well, yet you used this opportunity to cause all sorts of trouble, didn't you?" Rory instantly scolded, even having the urge to hit him.
Eric dodged while saying, "What did I do? Who's causing trouble? I was helping Mr. Wright with something really important."
"Something important?" Rory, who was chasing his son around to beat him, stopped, not believing a word. "What important thing could you do for Mr. Wright?"
"Why would I lie to you? Mr. Wright personally told me to find someone. Once found, I should call him."
Upon saying this, Eric took out his mobile. Indeed, Gabriel's phone number was saved in it.
Eric was not lying. The person Gabriel asked him to find was Valentina.
Early in the morning, Gabriel had been summoned back to Biddeford by his family, assigning Eric to look into Valentina. Eric readily agreed.
He recognized the school uniform on Valentina as one from Lakeside Elite. Early in the morning, he went to Lakeside Elite to inquire about her.
But after a whole morning of questioning, the more Eric asked, the more confused he got.
From what he learned from Lakeside Elite's students, Valentina indeed studying there.
The physical features all matched.
Yet, there was a glaring discrepancy between the Valentina described by those people and the Valentina he saw last night.
Valentina he knew: aloof, cool, domineering, confident, and courageous. She was so impressive and even looked down upon Mr. Wright.
She was more attractive than any hot-bodied beauty.
On the other hand, Valentina as described by the students of Lakeside Elite: timid, weak, and hunched over with extreme inferiority, and her grades were so poor. She was so silly and bullied throughout her three high school years without ever fighting back.
Eric felt that his score of 20 was already quite impressive, only to hear that Valentina scored five.
He just couldn't reconcile the intelligent Valentina he saw with a person who scored only five.
This left Eric full of doubts.
Rory said, "Then you must handle it well for Mr. Wright."
Eric replied, "Understood."
He planned to go to Lakeside Elite personally to find Valentina. He was hoping to get close to Gabriel through her.
He intended to go to university in Biddeford and was hoping for the opportunity to leverage the connection with Gabriel. If he could become part of Gabriel's circle, his future prospects would be boundless.
"Did Mr. Wright have a good time here?" Rory asked.
"Yeah," Eric replied perfunctorily.
The past few days, Gabriel didn't have much fun until Valentina appeared last night.
He sent Gabriel away this morning and noticed that Gabriel was still excited.
"Make more contact with Mr. Wright, and be careful with your words. Don't offend him. If you could become friends with Mr. Wright and get his approval, I will fulfill your wish to buy a car," he encouraged.
"Really?" Eric's eyes lit up.
"I keep my promises." Rory's mood was exceptionally good. The thought of establishing connections with the Felton and Wright families excited him.
His Howard family soaring to success was imminent.
...
Lewis looked at the picture sent by William, initially unsure if the girl in the picture was Valentina.
Because the girl's silhouette in the picture looked slimmer than that night.
The girl seemed to sense that someone was taking a photo, so she turned her head slightly. The side profile of her face was chiseled.
Only after careful comparisons did Lewis dare to confirm.
Then he noticed the boy in the picture.
He had only looked up Valentina's personal information and didn't know the specifics about her family situation, hence he didn't know she had a younger brother.
So, seeing the two walk so close, his reaction was the same as William's. "Is this... her boyfriend?"
Or her brother?
Lewis didn't think too much of it. Although Valentina saved him, he had repaid the favor. The distance between Biddeford and Mapleville was vast, and their status was also destined to have no intersection in the future.
...
William's assistant secretly gathered a few local people to handle Valentina's security discreetly.
When Valentina went out for a night run that evening, she discovered them.
Valentina had always had a quick and decisive nature, suspicious individuals would never be left till the next day to confirm their identities.
So, on the way back from her night run, Valentina swiftly slipped out of their sight with a quick movement.
Just as they were searching for her.
She quietly appeared behind them. "Looking for me?"
