Chapter 496 Her Water Broke!
Verian returned to her room after Little Jelly Bean went to sleep with Xylean.
Soon after, Verian received a video call when she returned to her room. Heaton was calling her.
Verian frantically rushed onto the bed before picking up the call.
The first thing Heaton asked after the video call was connected was, “Are there any guests at home today?”
Verian tried to play it cool by saying, “Mr. Fudd, if you’re planning to give me a surprise like this, next time, could you inform me earlier? My brother and mom came. Heck, even Xylean is here. Little Jelly Bean even called Xylean her godmother now. She even carried her little pillow to sleepover with Xylean.
“It wouldn’t be a surprise if I informed you earlier now, would it?”
Verian took a glance at Heaton’s window and noticed it was daylight so she randomly asked, “What time is it over there?”
“About eight in the morning.”
Verian noticed he was still wearing his pajamas and had not gotten changed. He obviously had just freshened up so she asked, “Shouldn’t you hurry to grab some breakfast before you head out for work?”
Heaton took a look at the time and said in a neutral tone, “I’m not in a hurry. I can still talk to you for another half an hour.”
Verian laid back on a pillow as she felt slightly tired. She said, “But I’m a little tired.”
“Go ahead and sleep first. I’ll watch you sleep.”
Verian smiled. She felt comforted because through the screen, she felt like he was actually by her side and that felt more secure than anything else.
Verian closed her eyes and mumbled in an exhausted tone, “Heaton, when are you coming back?”
“Madam Fudd, I’ve just been here for a day.”
Verian sighed as she said while clutching onto her phone, “But I feel like you’ve gone for quite some time now.”
“I’ll be back in four days.”
“Okay…”
They chatted about nothing in particular until Verian actually fell asleep while clutching onto her phone. Heaton’s heart felt warm as he stared at how soundly she was sleeping.
Heaton kept the video call going since it was not yet nine and he wanted to hear her long and deep breaths.
He waited until Verian flipped over and accidentally pressed the end call button before the video call abruptly ended.
…
The next morning, Verian awoke to a sharp pain from her belly.
She cried out in pain several times before getting Madam Leah’s attention. After Yannis and Yandel both heard the commotion, they rushed into her room.
“What’s wrong, madam? Are you about to give birth?”
Verian was clutching onto her belly and all she felt were the sudden contractions from within. She was slightly panicky as she said, “I don’t know…”
Yandel immediately carried Verian in his arms and exclaimed, “Let’s go to the hospital!”
Both Little Jelly Bean and Xylean had just woken up and they noticed Yandel carrying Verian downstairs, so they rushed over as well.
Little Jelly Bean was asking with a concerned tone, “What happened to Monty? Is Monty going to give birth to the baby now?”
Yannis held onto Little Jelly Bean’s hand and led her into the car as she said, “Don’t worry, Jelly Bean. Nothing is happening. Don’t be afraid.”
Little Jelly Bean said, “Let’s call daddy!”
After some thought, it seemed like Little Jelly Bean’s suggestion was a good idea so she frantically gave Heaton a call but his phone was already switched off.
Verian said while hugging onto her belly, “Heaton is currently in San Francisco. He might be asleep now. Mom, stop calling him. I might just be having regular contractions.”
If they called Heaton who was currently in San Francisco, it would only add to his troubles so it would be useless calling him anyway.
…
Verian’s belly was no longer hurting when they arrived at the hospital.
The doctor said, “It’s normal for a pregnant woman to experience these symptoms because it's getting closer to her due date. She will be experiencing contraction pains these few days and if you are worried about her, she can stay in the hospital from now on.”
Yannis looked at Verian who was laying in bed as she said, “Riana, why don’t you stay in the hospital since you have no idea which day you’d be giving birth anyway.”
However, Verian was not fond of staying in the hospital and if she stayed, her family would have to keep her company. Even if they do it in shifts, it would be very inconvenient for them and Verian would feel bad.
“Mom, let’s go home and besides, I still have fourteen days.”
The doctor said, “She does have quite some time left before her expected due date and usually a pregnant woman would be admitted into the hospital three days before the expected delivery day. Some would be admitted a week earlier but rarely two weeks prior.”
In the end, Verian returned home but she was extremely anxious.
When she was about ten days away from her delivery, her water broke on the morning of Heaton’s flight home.
