Chapter 766 I Bet You and Blaine Will Break Up

Ruby lived alone at the Mount Hope Mansion after leaving the border and returning to Z Country. She grew flowers during spring and laid on the couch in her yard, basking under the sun while sipping on her tea made from freshly plucked tea leaves. She lived a relaxing life. She originally promised Blaine that she would fly to the western border of Country R every Friday. She thought it was too frequent at first but whenever she was free, she realized she would miss him from time to time. She was used to being lonely since childhood. However, lonely people were not afraid of being lonely. They were more afraid of someone barging into their life, breaking their loneliness to become one with them after they were used to being lonely. She could no longer stand loneliness in that case. Although she was idling at the Mount Hope Mansion, she remained in contact with the outside world. She would keep herself updated with current affairs of both Z Country and R Country. It was Thursday night and Blaine called Ruby. She just got out from the shower and was packing her luggage for her trip tomorrow. With one hand holding her phone, she tossed a few sets of clothes into her backpack. “Tomorrow is Friday. Remember your promise.” Ruby’s lips curled up into a faint smile and said, “Of course I remember my promise. Now that you remind me of this, I realized that even if I stood you up, you won’t be able to do anything to me since you’re trapped at the border.” Blaine knew she was joking around, so he asked dotingly, “How are you doing these days?” “Not bad. I’m a bit bored but I’m feeling quite productive.” “That’s because I’m not by your side.” The man on the other side of the phone spoke calmly and half-jokingly. However, Ruby was stunned. She kept silent for a few seconds before she continued speaking, “Master Blaine, have anybody told you before that you’re such a narcissist?” “Nobody had the guts to say that to me except for you.” Ruby tossed her bag to the ground and lied down on the bed while grabbing her phone as she said seriously, “Master Blaine, you would suffer a great deal if you stay together with me without caring about my real identity.” “I knew it was you since 10 years ago. Isn’t it too late to ask me this question now, Softie?” “What if you’ve gone blind and mistook me for someone else?” Blaine chuckled, “Then I’ll be blind forever.” Ruby bit her lips and said, “Master Blaine, this is my first relationship so I’m not certain whether I can stay with you forever. If you unilaterally sacrificed so much for me and we broke up in the future, won’t all your sacrifices go to waste?” She was not being sentimental. Instead, she was sincerely showing Blaine the consequences that they might face. She was confident in shooting down a prey from a 100 feet distance, and she was confident in turning the tables in a war even if her people were in a vulnerable position. However, she was not sure whether she could stay to the very end in a relationship. Blaine said slowly, “You don’t have to feel pressured, neither will you need to worry what I’ve done for you. Softie, you just have to cherish and enjoy the moment whenever you’re with me. You just have to be happy. Don’t worry whether it’s worth it or not in relationships. As long as I’m willing to do it for you, it’s fine.” Ruby answered him calmly, “Master Blaine, it’s hard for me to become a good girlfriend, let alone become a good wife.” Blaine let out a faint laugh, “To be honest, this is also my first time getting into such a serious relationship with a woman. I’m not sure either if I’ll become a qualified and good boyfriend for you. I have a lot of responsibilities to bear. I’m not sure whether I can become a good husband as well.” For some reason, Ruby somehow stopped dwelling on that issue after hearing what he said. Since it was the first time for the both of them, they would learn and work together. Right when Ruby was about to hang up, Blaine spoke in a deep voice, “Softie, let’s ignore the uncertainties. What matters most is that both of us are trying our best to become the best partner for each other and that’s good enough.” Grabbing onto her phone, Ruby smiled and said, “Good night, Master Blaine, I’m going to bed now.” Blaine said, “Good night, Softie. See you tomorrow.” Ruby thought to herself as she hung up, covered herself in her blanket, and closed her eyes, ‘See you tomorrow, Master Blaine.’ … The next morning, Ruby received a call from an unknown number after she just finished her breakfast. “Who is this?” “I’m Cindy Nelson.” Ruby was sipping on her porridge and she paused for a moment. Slightly surprised, she frowned, “Ms. Cindy, you’re really something. How did you find my number?” “Thank you very much, Ms. Ruby.” Ruby did not want to waste her time talking nonsense to her, she said, “Tell me. I believe you didn’t go through all the trouble calling me just to exchange small talks. You’re calling to ask about Master Blaine, am I right?” Cindy laughed through the phone. She cut to the chase, “Since you know that I’m calling for Master Blaine, I won’t beat around the bush then. You were once part of the Light Organization, and just by that, you don’t deserve to be together with Master Blaine.” “If I don’t deserve him, do you deserve him?” “It doesn’t matter if I deserve him or not. Anyway, you and Master Blaine are not suited for each other. Have you ever thought of how much criticism he would receive if people find out he was dating a female assassin from his rival organization considering his position in the country? Do you know what that means to Master Blaine?” Ruby kept silent and simply listened to what Cindy had to say. Cindy continued, “Do you know that you might destroy Master Blaine’s future if you keep dating him? Do you have the heart to…” “Stop.” Ruby cut Cindy off and laughed while she said, “Ms. Cindy, my relationship with Master Blaine is none of your business. Moreover, Master Blaine doesn’t even care about his future himself, so who are you to worry about him?” Cindy’s face flushed red with anger upon hearing Ruby’s words. For a few moments, she could not think of any words to fire back at Ruby. “Ms. Cindy, if there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up now. Also, please stop calling me in the future. If you have any complaints about me and Master Blaine dating, please call him directly.” Cindy was speechless. She gritted her teeth. Ruby knew she would not call Master Blaine to talk about such issues! “Ruby Luna, I bet you and Master Blaine will break up!” Listening to Cindy’s evil tone, it sounded more like a curse than a bet. However, Ruby did not bother to entertain her and she hung up immediately. It was no point talking to a woman who was blinded by emotions. They would not understand each other anyway. Ruby walked to the backyard after she was done with her breakfast. The morning dew was still visible. She felt refreshed looking at the tea leaves in her backyard. It was very visually pleasing. She wondered whether Blaine liked tea. The tea leaves were in the first flush of the year.
