Chapter 763 Don't Cry, Softie.

Ruby said while staring at Blaine's gentle gaze, "Initially, I thought I didn't really care much about you. However with a much deeper thought, there are only very few people in this world who I have ties with. I grew up as an orphan and had no family so Wilson and Thompson were the only people I considered as family." "However, Wilson married Serene. After that, Serene technically became part of my family. Their child is also very adorable and he has made me his aunt. Therefore, their child is also considered as part of my family." "However, with all of them in mind, I only have four people whom I consider family. The funny thing is, aside from Serene's child, Wilson, Thompson and even Serene, all of them have someone they'd do anything to protect. Me, on the other hand, no one will go this far to protect me." "Because I have so few people whom I hold dear to my heart, I don't want to lose anyone at all." Ruby said a lot of things to Blaine on the other side of the window pane in the quarantine zone. This was the first time Ruby had ever spoken this much to Blaine. Blaine was tearing up. He understood her. He understood her completely. She must have felt very afraid to have spoken this much to him. Ruby was also tearing up so she turned around while clutching onto her phone to avoid looking at Blaine. However, the instant she turned around, tears were already pouring out of her eyes. She told Blaine through the phone, "Can you call out to me just once, Blaine?" Blaine pouted his lips while his eyes were filled with compassion as he said, "Softie." "You have to live because you promised a decade ago that you will protect me." Although Blaine could not see her face when he was staring at her back, her subtly sobbing voice betrayed her. He knew she was crying. Blaine pressed one of his palms on the thick glass door to touch her. He really wanted to hug her. "Don't cry, Softie. I'm really fine." Ruby took a deep breath, reached out to wipe her tears before turning around to face Blaine. She placed her palm against Blaine's while holding onto her phone with her other hand. "I'll be waiting for you, Blaine." Blaine finally cracked a smile with his teary eyes. He would keep on living based on the statement she made. … The SA super virus finally broke out in the base two days after Blaine's infection. The infirmary sounded the alarm. Blaine's face grew increasingly pale and weaker. Nines was researching a vaccine for the SA supervirus. Blaine was the person who picked up the call when Ruby called the infirmary again. "How are you doing today, Blaine?" Due to Blaine still being sick, his voice sounded a lot weaker and hoarser than usual, "I'm fine." Ruby was staring at Blaine through the window pane on the other side of the quarantine zone. He was sitting on the bed even though he said he was fine. However, since he was sitting in a blindspot, she thought he was unable to see her. However, she did not know that Blaine was staring at a nearby mirror while her slender figure was reflected onto it. Her movements and expressions were all reflected in his eyes. As Ruby stared at the weakened man that was dressed in a patient's uniform, she was unsure why she was somehow starting to tear up. She knew the SA supervirus was no joke. Although she was not well-versed in medicine, she spent plenty of time with Wilson and Thompson back then and had heard about how scary this virus actually was. However, she was not weak. Even though this hurdle was difficult for her to go through, she kept her smile up even though she was tearing up. She asked, "Are you still able to hold on?" Blaine stared at the smiling woman who was also tearing up through the reflection on the mirror. He smiled and said, "Of course." She remained silent for a really long time. Blaine watched her covering her mouth while holding onto her phone. Tears were pouring out of her eyes. This made his heart wrench. It hurt him. Blaine could no longer contain himself from comforting her, "Stop crying, Softie." "I'm not crying." Ruby added, "Back then, no one else could make me feel worthy enough for my tears." "Am I the first one then?" Ruby stared at him with a gentle gaze as she replied with a calm smile, "You're the first, Blaine." Blaine chuckled. Ruby was not lying when she told him all of that and was also not intended as a means to comfort him. She never cried to such an extent even when Wilson divorced her. Now however, since she had never experienced what it felt like to be in love, everything was touching to her. "If that's the case, you'll experience more first times with me, Blaine." Blaine smiled harder as he said, "There will be more first times in the future." "Yeah." "So, do you love me now?" "Are you asking Softie or Ruby, Blaine?" "Both." Ruby smiled and said, "Keep up your efforts." "Alright." The man's affection had taught the 18 year old Softie what it felt like to be loved and to love someone mutually. He was behaving exactly like how people who were dating should be. Ruby never had a family ever since she was a child so she had always felt more alone than any other children. She did not even have the chance to make demands while she was in the Light Organization. Blaine's love for her however was unconditional. Thus, she had no reason to reject Blaine's love for her. … Using the opportunity when the medical staff were all asleep, she put on her personal protective equipment and snuck into the quarantine zone through the balcony in the middle of the night. She opened the door and called out to Blaine as she noticed the man's silhouette, "Blaine." Blaine was stunned as he had his back turned toward her. However, the woman's voice did not sound like it came from the phone. He was not hallucinating. Blaine turned around slowly. Ruby approached him and immediately hugged. She had never missed someone to such an extent before, even though they had just spoken to each other through the cold glass and on the phone earlier this morning. However, an actual hug had a much better effect in satiating her feelings of yearning compared to speaking to him through the phone. Although Blaine found it very difficult to control his urges, he was still thinking rationally as he forcefully pulled her arms away. He then stared at her with his dark eyes and scolded her with a cold voice, "What are you doing here? Hurry up and leave!" Ruby took her face mask off, looked at him and spoke to him in a determined tone, "I'm not staying long. Just ten minutes will do." "Do you have a deathwish, Softie? How'd you even get in?" Ruby chuckled maniacally, "Don't forget, I happened to be a top spy. That alarm system is child's play to me. I obviously will be able to enter if I really want to." Blaine had actually forgotten about that. Softie was even bold enough to enter his study when she was 18 back then. She was already mature ten years later and a simple alarm system would not be able to stop her. Blaine stared at her and put her face mask back on again. Ruby told him while staring at his dark eyes, "I'm not afraid of being infected." "I am." Those simple words were enough to make her heart tremble as she said, "Nines will get a vaccine out." "I know." Blaine believed her. Nines was a medical genius and the only rival he had in this world would be Thompson. However, both of them were always at odds with each other since one specialized in poison and the other was a master in making antidotes. However, in the end, after endless battles with each other, no one had lost to each other yet nor had any of them won against each other.
