Chapter 755 Meeting Blaine At The Western Borders

Wilson noticed Serene was leaning against the door as she tried to eavesdrop the instant he exited the room. She looked like a criminal. Wilson grabbed the back of his wife’s collar and brought her downstairs as if he was holding onto a small chicken. Serene curiously asked, “What did you guys talk about in the study earlier?” “Nothing important.” “Then why is Ruby alone in the study as if some sort of huge revelation has been revealed to her?” Wilson lowered his head and stared at her adorable little face before intentionally teasing her by whispering into her ear, “Maybe she’s thinking if she should kidnap your husband away or not.” The instant she heard that, she immediately crossed her arms and exclaimed, “Keep dreaming! If she dares kidnap you, I’ll fight her!” Wilson chuckled as he stared at her arrogant little face and said, “How are you planning to fight her? Have you forgotten that she has a gun with her?” “I… I’ll desperately cling onto her legs to stop her from leaving!” “Oh babe, you won’t last longer than three seconds.” Serene pouted her lips and hugged Wilson’s waist immediately before saying, “I won’t let her take you away!” Wilson reached out and patted the woman’s little head that was buried in his chest as he said, “Oh you, she won’t be able to take me away. Besides, I wouldn’t even leave with her.” Ruby spent about half an hour reflecting on everything in the study. She did not even step out of the room once. Serene would sneak a couple of glances at the study every once in a while. “What’s up with Ruby? She’s not gonna do anything stupid in there, right?” “She’s thinking about some things. She’ll be fine soon. Don’t worry.” … In the study. Ruby was staring at that little metal box that had an oil painting on it. She reached out and opened it. There was a picture of her and Blaine together. She noticed a timestamp at the bottom right corner of the picture. It was taken ten years ago. The woman in the picture looked innocent. Although she was naturally quite beautiful, she still seemed a little childish. She was leaning her head against the young and handsome man’s shoulder in the picture. She had quite the cunning smile. The man was not as reserved as he was ten years ago. He looked as elegant and charming as a prince. Anyone would fall for him in an instant. Ruby ran her fingers across the couple in the picture before taking a deep breath and looking through the other stuff in the box. There was also a silver pistol. It seemed to be custom made. Its hilt was decorated with small diamonds. The gun was obviously a gift for a woman since it looked very pretty. It was probably a gift Blaine gave her back then. There was also an uninteresting-looking wooden comb in the box. A few strands of hair were caught between its teeth. She could tell the picture and the pistol were related to her. Had she used this comb before? Ruby raised her brows slightly. There was a bullet in the box that had caught her attention. Why was this single bullet so valuable to be kept in here? There were plenty of questions in her head. However, her mind was completely empty. The only person who could answer her questions and by default, restore her memories, was none other than Blaine. However, after learning all of this, she had no idea how she would be able to face Blaine at that moment. … Ruby only came out of the room during dinner. Wilson and Serene had already prepared dinner downstairs. Serene wiped her hands and said, “It’s time for dinner, Ruby.” Ruby glanced coldly at the dining table before speaking to Wilson, “Come up here for a second. There’s something I need to talk to you about.” Wilson patted Serene’s waist and said, “You can eat with our child first. You don’t have to wait for me.” … After Wilson walked upstairs, he asked, “Have you made up your mind yet?” Determined, Ruby replied, “It doesn’t matter how troubling those memories were to me, they’re still a part of my life. Even if I don’t really want to remember them, I still want to know what on Earth happened ten years ago between me and Blaine. It’s always been my right to know.” “Alright then. If that’s the case, I’ll help you restore your memories.” … When Serene woke up the next day to call Ruby down for breakfast, she received no reply from her even after knocking on her door several times. When Serene entered the room, she noticed it was completely empty and Ruby was nowhere to be seen. When Wilson carried their child over, he told Serene, “Ruby’s left.” Wilson was not surprised by this as he said, “She should be on her way back to look for Blaine now.” … Ruby traveled through the night back to R Country. After arriving at Glacier City, she immediately borrowed a helicopter from Old K. Old K had never expected Ruby to return to R Country again. After requesting for a flight path from Old K, she departed immediately after getting into the helicopter. … At the Western borders. Two men were drinking beer underneath the moonlight. As Nines stared at the brightly-lit moon, he sighed and said, “Only by retreating to the middle of nowhere like the Western borders could we see such a beautiful night sky.” Blaine raised his brows and said, “Are you regretting coming over with me since there are no beautiful women or pubs here? The only thing this place has is the brightly lit moon.” “Of course I am! Who would even be willing to come over to the middle of nowhere? I want to wake up to the beauty of nature but the only thing I wake up to every day now is the stench of sweaty soldiers.” “It’s a good thing I arranged for you to live in a single room or else, if Shadow and the others were to come along, you’d be sharing a room with those soldiers.” Nines chuckled and did not seem bothered by his remark as he said, “Wow, Mr. Director, you sure know how to spoil your staff.” Blaine finished his beer by chugging it down. Nines asked curiously, “You know, Master Blaine, I just can’t seem to understand why you would even be willing to come to a place like this just for a woman. Furthermore, you didn’t even bring her along. You have no idea how long you’ll have to stay here and besides, there’s a chance of a pandemic outbreak happening here at any given moment. I don’t want to curse you but what if something were to happen while you’re here? Do you actually feel like it’s worth it doing so much for her?” Blaine stood up and spoke with a determined gaze, “Oh, she’ll definitely show up.” Nines was a little confused as he watched Blaine leave. He then asked, “Are you really that certain, Director? What if that woman turns out to be absolutely heartless?” In a carefree manner while waving his arm at Nines who was behind him, Blaine replied, “If that’s the case then so be it. I was blind and wasted my efforts in loving her then.” ‘Hmph, he sure is a carefree man.’ Nines threw the empty bottle away and just as he was about to return to his room to call it a day, the alarms at the base started blaring. It was an alert announcement. [Alert, alert. An unidentified twin-propeller aircraft is currently en route toward the base. Distance is ten thousand miles away. All personnel are required to regroup and get ready immediately…] The helicopter’s transmission lights could be seen flickering away in the night sky nearby. Nines frowned as he wondered who exactly was bold enough to storm their military base. Another alert announcement was made not long after the first one. [Alert, alert. All personnel are required to stand down immediately. The aircraft isn’t weaponized.] Even so, a team was sent to investigate. … Someone was already pointing a gun at Ruby the instant she landed the helicopter. “Do you know what kinds of criminal charges you could be charged with for trespassing R Country’s military base?” Ruby held up both arms as she said, “Take me to your Director.” The soldier scoffed before restraining Ruby and bringing her into the base. “Who do you think you are to demand to meet Director Glaceau?” Ruby gritted her teeth as she thought to herself, ‘Fine, I’ll do what you say since I’m currently in your base. I’ll deal with these soldiers after the entire confusion has been cleared up!’
