Chapter 502 Epiphany For Designing A Wedding Dress
Heaton accompanied Verian as they ran for two kilometers that night.
Verian sat in front of the drawing block after she was done with her shower. Her mind was empty when she thought about her design entry.
When Heaton got out of the shower, he noticed the woman was in front of her drawing block, but her hair was still wet, and the windows were opened. The wind blew at her while she held onto a hairdryer. Then he stood behind her.
"You've just come out of your month-long confinement, and you're letting the wind blow at your wet hair? Are you not afraid of getting headaches in the future?"
Verian thought it was funny when he nagged her, so she said, "Why are you behaving like Madam Leah? Madam Leah is constantly nagging at me about getting headaches for having my wet hair exposed to the wind."
Heaton switched on the hairdryer, used his hand to test the temperature before he stood behind Verian and started to blow-dry her wet hair.
Verian had cut her hair short previously. However, since she had not had a haircut in months, her hair had grown to her shoulder length.
Heaton glanced at her empty white canvas and asked, "Don't have new design ideas for the new entry?"
"I could draw when I had concepts to draw back then. Now that I've qualified for the competition and it carried some sort of objective, I couldn't come up with anything to draw. Wedding dresses, though, are not regular fashion outfits. Trends are always changing, but wedding dresses change so subtly... I haven't come up with the subtle changes for its details."
Heaton raised his brows slightly as he felt that she had limited herself to her train of thought, so he suggested, "Have you considered designing for only a niche audience? Something only for a certain group of people?"
Verian was stunned. After she thought about it for a few seconds, she turned around and looked at Heaton. "You mean a wedding dress for everyone is way too common, and you want me to design something that screams a different design that no one else has ever made? That way, I might have a chance of getting into the final?"
Heaton commented bluntly, "Even though it seems risky but sticking to the norm and staying in your comfort zone is riskier, honestly."
Verian nodded as she agreed with Heaton's opinion. However, she was stressed over a different problem. She said, "However, which group of people should I target?"
"Didn't you say that women are only willing to put on a wedding dress when they are skinny? However, some of them might not be able to slim down. Is there a type of wedding dress…"
Before Heaton could finish, Verian had an epiphany as she spoke excitedly, "So, you mean I should design a wedding dress for plump women? The unique part about this wedding dress is that it will make the woman look slender. That way, even if the woman is unable to slim down before the wedding, she could still wear a beautiful dress for her wedding. The wedding dresses in the market emphasize too much on a woman's body, and even if those dresses are custom-made, plus-size women won't look that good in them. Therefore, if I could design one that can lower the expectation of that emphasis and make them look good, it will be very marketable."
The man patted her head with his huge hand before he praised her, "Excellent work."
After Heaton was done blow-drying Verian's hair, he kept the hairdryer away and went to bed. He was lost in his head as he stared at the ceiling for an hour.
Heaton glanced at the time, and it was already 11.30 P.M. He got out of bed and dragged Verian, who was utterly focused on her design entry, back to bed.
"I'm not done with my drawing…"
"Even if you don't sleep tonight, you won't be able to complete your drawing. Just sleep and rest well. You can continue tomorrow."
Verian reached out to hug Heaton's neck as she buried her little face into his nape. Then she nuzzled him and said, "Heaton, I feel fortunate to be with you."
Heaton hugged her, lowered his head, and kissed her forehead. He did not say anything else as he closed his eyes.
…
Verian spent the entire week entirely focused on her entry design. She did not talk much with Heaton, and their intimacy had decreased significantly.
After Verian had decided on her entry, she contacted the tailor to make a wedding dress and told the tailor to rush it. She finally received the wedding dress on a Thursday afternoon, despite the extremely tight schedule.
When she went to collect her wedding dress, she ran into Bodd on the same street.
They had not seen each other for a very long time, but Bodd was still very youthful, much like when they had first met.
When they held the full moon celebration for Little Pickle, the Yellen family was there as well; even Guin had come. She had used that opportunity to reconcile with Guin. However, Bodd never showed up.
Verian did not think about it too much, nor was she interested in why he was not there.
Verian was not flustered when she ran into him. She asked as she held onto her wedding dress, "What are you doing here, Bodd?"
"Oh, I'm here to collect something I've designed."
"What a coincidence! I'm also here to collect something I designed as well."
Bodd chuckled as he said, "We might be participating in the same design competition."
After some small talk, Verian hinted at him, "You have to come to the party when the baby turns one, okay?"
However, she did not expect Bodd would reply in such a serious tone, "I don't think I'm able to make it. Verian, I…"
Verian seemed to be able to tell what Bodd was about to say, so she frantically said, "Hey, it's getting late now. Drop by my house when you're free next time, and we'll hang out. I need to head back home now."
"I'll drive you."
"There's no need. I…"
Bodd looked at his watch as he opened his car door. "My uncle should still be at work now, right? Besides, you're carrying a heavy wedding dress, and it'll be inconvenient to call a cab. Just get in, and I'll drive you home."
Verian did not refuse. The atmosphere turned awkwardly silent after she got in the car.
Bodd was the first to break the silence when he said, "Even though we haven't seen each other for more than a year now, I feel like we're very displaced from the world."
She was unaware as she could not recall it. It had been nearly two years since her encounter with Heaton. Little Jelly Bean was in the senior class, and they had Little Pickle too.
"Yeah, it has been a while. How are you doing?"
"Nothing's changed, honestly. What about you? Are you okay with my uncle?"
Bodd cracked a mocking laugh after he said that as he mumbled to himself, "My question is too dumb. You must have a happy life with my uncle, or else why would you have a second child so soon."
"Bodd…"
"Verian, you are not at fault, nor was my uncle. My feelings for you were one-sided, and it even brought you trouble. However, I just can't understand why you'd like my uncle? Even though he was a capable man, he has an unstable temperament, and many ordinary women would find it difficult to get along with him. I am curious as to how you'd fall in love with him?"
Verian's gaze turned gentle and warm when he brought up Heaton. She smiled and said, "Even though Heaton is bad-tempered and can be very difficult to get along with, he reserves his patience just for me. Therefore, it doesn't matter how awful his temper was toward anyone else. He will always be willing to accept my shortcomings and flaws. I feel very relaxed when I'm with him, and I don't need to think about anything much. I don't need to bring my brain with me whenever I'm out. I feel like I don't even need to look at the oncoming traffic while I cross the street."
"But I can do that as well. Why…"
Verian chuckled calmly as she replied, "Even if we ended up together, the possibility of us getting married isn't that high."
"Why?"
"I am someone who is unwilling to think about these things, but I suddenly recalled something. Do you remember when we were in Paris, and I told you that I'm fat and wanted to lose weight? We ended up sticking to a diet plan for three days, but we couldn't pull through it. I am touched that you're willing to lose weight with me, but I'm not happy because the diet plan wasn't a good one. However, when I'm with Heaton, he won't stick to a diet plan with me, and he would buy delicious food for me to enjoy. He was worried that I might feel hungry. However, if I want to lose weight, he will exercise with me so that I can keep enjoying amazing food. I won't starve, and I'm able to work out. Perhaps, this is the true reason why I fell in love with him."
