Chapter 79

"You are the capitalist. Your whole family are the capitalist." I yelled at Harris's back. Soon, I realized my mistake.  Carroll was Harris' cousin, and I was Carroll's wife. Weren't Carroll and I members of Harris' family? Didn't I curse myself? "Well, I have a meeting. Enjoy yourself." Carroll pinched my face and then went upstairs. "Madam, I have to remind you of one thing. In the future, don't mention mother in front of Mr. Carroll." Confirming that Carroll was upstairs, Jason said to me seriously and cautiously.  "Why? Not even his mother?" "Carroll's mother must be as kind and gentle as an angel." "Otherwise, how can Carroll be so considerate and gentle?" Jason stomped his feet. After one nervous glance at the stairs, he almost ran over to cover my mouth. "Madam, no! This is the taboo of Mr. Carroll." Alright, taboo. I shut my mouth sensibly. Everyone had his bottom line, and so did Carroll. I shouldn't cross his bottom line because of his indulgence.  The next day, I arrived at Jessica's studio early in the morning. The designer Jessica sent to help me was a girl, Julie, and she wasn't much of an orator. Julie took me to an office without a window. "Miss Kelly, this is my office. We'll work here from now on." "Why is it so small?" This office had no windows and was narrow. Besides a desk, there were many models in the room. There were no room for us to turn around. After an awkward smile, Julie said, "I'm new here. Ineloquent. I am content to have my own office." She was like me who had just arrived in Costsley. Back then, I was content to have a bed to sleep and food to eat.  "No. I am afraid that Mrs. Anderson, given her figure, will find it inconvenient to be here. My home is spacious, and there is an unused garage. I will make it our office tomorrow. By the way, will you give me the pattern today?" "Can I go to your house? Is it convenient for you?" Julie asked while looking for her design. "Of course. After I study the pattern, we will invite Mrs. Anderson over to take measurements." I comforted Julie with a smile. Humans always felt for their own kind.  Julie found the pattern. Then, she said with a red face, "This pattern is difficult to find. Few people will order it." "What?" I was surprised. This pattern was not for living people... It was designed for the dead. "Do you know this pattern? Mrs. Anderson came for the pattern that day. She wanted something unusual, and Susan recommended this one to her. It's weird. Why did a living person use this pattern?" Julie was confused. "Well, see you. I'll study this pattern at home. I'll call you when I am ready." In fact, I lost control of my expression. Jessica tried to make me a scapegoat for Susan.  I put the pattern into my bag. I would have to figure out a solution at home. At the door of the studio, a red car blocked my way. Terry stood in front of me subconsciously. Then, Odette got off the red car. "Kelly, let's have afternoon tea together!" Odette brushed past Terry and held my arm intimately. When Terry was about to take action, I calmly stopped him with a wink. "How did you know I was here?" I withdrew my arm and kept a certain distance from Odette. "Your Facebook. What happened in the past is a misunderstanding. You will forgive me, won't you? I did stupid things because I was afraid that my dear parents didn't love me anymore and that you would take my brothers away. You would do the same if you were in my shoes. Won't you be afraid of losing your family?" Odette tried to brainwash me. I smiled perfunctorily. "Didn't you say afternoon tea? Let's go!" Odette let out a long sigh. "Get in the car." "No, I will follow you in my car." After that, I went back to my Maybach. Why did I say my? Because Carroll had put the car under my name without informing me. Not only this car, there were some apartments too. Carroll did these as casually as he threw rubbishes away. It was late when I found out what he had done. Now, I could point at any car in the garage and say, "Mine. This one is mine. That too." Carroll used the power of money to protect my precarious sense of security. My car followed Odette's to a private garden. Terry got out of the car with me. After one glance at Terry, Odette smiled awkwardly. "Just afternoon tea. You don't have to do so, do you?" "Miss Odette, I hope you understand one thing. Madam is not only your sister but also the mistress of the Brown family. She's of high status, so I had better follow her. If something bad happens to her, it will be difficult to excuse yourself, don't you agree?" Terry became argumentive about the refusal from Odette. I suspected that he had used up today's share of words. Obviously, his speech was a warning. Odette, a snob, said nothing. Right then, the arrival of two girls eased the awkward atmosphere. After the introduction, I knew that they were Odette's besties. One girl was Ailey, and the other was Angel. The two girls were ladies from famous families in Costsley. Together with Odette, they called themselves Three Flowers of Costsley.  Old-fashioned! I couldn't help curling my lips. I took a cup of tea from a maid and began to eat the mousse cake in front of me. However, the three girls like their nickname.  They always started their speech with we three flowers... I couldn't help chuckling.  Ailey shot a glare at me. " Odette, your little sister looks so vulgar. You're a fine young lady. Isn't it embarrassing to take her out with you?" "Come on! Kelly is a bit willful and weird, but she is my sister anyway. I have the responsibility to take her to see more of the world." Odette belittled me to perfect her public image.  How ridiculous! I put down my fork and talked back. "In fact, I don't see much of the world here. There is grass in our village. We have cattle, sheep, and small animals in our village. I can order tea and cakes from Cheuk Restaurant to be sent to my home. You may exchange gossip through Line. Did you bring me here to waste my time?" "Look! Look! How ignorant! She, married, doesn't know that afternoon tea is important social communication for a lady." Hearing Ailey, Angel covered her mouth and laughed wildly. "Baby, she is married, but she is a widow." "You're right. My bad. You haven't been to college and are a widow. Why do you still stay in Costsley? You should go back to your village." This was a personal attack, so I couldn't stand it anymore!
