My World?
As soon as I returned to the cabin, I was pulled into Carroll's arms.
"The little girl has grown up." He stroked my hair and tucked the hair on my forehead behind my ear.
He doted on me so much that my heart skipped a beat.
"Don't you want me anymore when I grow up?" I asked awkwardly.
I didn't know why, but his behavior made me feel that a parent was going to send his children to get married.
He was like a father and brother.
"No, I will wait for you to grow up."
His voice was hoarse, as if he was deliberately suppressing some kind of emotion.
I panicked because of the heat of his body. I broke away from his arms and pulled him to sit down on the round-shaped sofa.
I spoke vividly, "You know what? That party, tsk tsk..."
I paused. For a moment, I didn't know how to describe it.
After thinking for a while, I said, "Extravagant orgy."
"Nice words. Aren't you curious anymore after having a look?"
Carroll crossed his legs and casually took out a sandalwood bracelet.
I sniffed hard, but the salty smell of the sea didn't cover the fragrance of the wood.
It was a good thing. No wonder Carroll brought it with him all the time.
I enjoyed this moment of peace and leaned back in a comfortable position. "I'm indeed not curious, but I don't understand why Odette would appear on such an occasion."
She was the noble daughter of the Smith family.
Speaking to a country bumpkin like me would disgrace her.
Wasn't she lowering herself by appearing on such a chaotic occasion?
Carroll explained, "Your appearance caused her status as a noble lady to be threatened. The rich men are willing to play with her, so she naturally wouldn't refuse. Of course, this doesn't mean that she will do something out of line. What she cares about is this circle."
I didn't quite understand what he meant. "Is Sandy also in this circle?"
"Yes, all the idle rich people are in this circle."
Eh...
Odette was a freshman of Costsley University.
But he said she was idle.
I dreamed of going to such a good university.
"What kind of expression is that?" Carroll looked me up and down.
I instantly put away the horror on my face and said with an awkward smile, "Nothing. I just feel that many things that others dream of become worthless in your opinion."
"Dream of? The daughter of the Smith family?"
Carroll asked.
I shook my head.
"A yacht?"
I continued to shake my head.
"What is it?"
"Costsley University." My eyes were full of longing. "That's the university in my dream."
"You can study at Costsley University when September starts."
Carroll ruffled my hair. "I thought it was something hard to get."
"No, I want to take the exam myself."
Carroll sized me up. He suddenly released a sigh. "Your world is different from most people's."
"Huh?" I tilted my head and leaned against the sofa.
"You distinguish right from wrong clearly. Your brain and logic seem to be different from others'."
I panicked after being stared at by him. I covered my head and asked, "Do you want to knock my head open again?"
Carroll replied, "It's not impossible."
"Mr. Carroll, your words are not what a good husband should say," I replied.
"What should a good husband say? Ask when are you going to take the college entrance examination?" Carroll asked.
I took out my phone and found the information about the tutoring class I applied to.
He scanned it and suddenly laughed. "Is the next Monday the beginning of school?"
"Yes, I will go back to prepare something in a while. In the future, I will go to school during the day and go to Cultural Tourism Street to sell egg yolk cake at night."
My life was so great!
Carroll's smile became even heartier. It was rare for him to smile so brightly. For a moment, I was fascinated.
What I didn't know was that his words had brought me back to my original self. "You look like a girl who's positive and works hard."
"What do you mean by 'look like'? I'm obviously like that!" I glared at him with dissatisfaction.
He raised his eyebrows, and the smile on his face did not fade away at all. "Ask Jason to take the bodyguards to send you to report on Monday."
"No, I'm not a child. Do I need someone to accompany me?" I waved my hand crazily.
Being independent and free had always been what I yearned for.
If I was followed by a group of bodyguards every day, the teachers wouldn't dare to give lessons, would they?
"Okay, I'll do as you say."
After a few days of rest, I finally waited for the school opening day.
In the morning, I found a shopping bag in the cloakroom and packed up the prepared materials.
I set off according to the bus route on the navigation.
"The 22nd floor of T&S Building."
I looked at the address on the registration form and then looked at the building sign.
That was right.
Why was there no one in the building?
The last time I came to sign up was just a month ago.
I stared blankly at the office building filled with waste paper. Behind me appeared a few boys and girls of the same age as me.
"Are you also here for school?" I asked.
Like me, they were all at a loss. "Are you the same?"
"Yes," I answered with certainty.
"We seem to have been defrauded."
After saying this, a girl began to squat on the ground and burst into tears.
The shrill voice sounded in the empty writing room.
Was I... defrauded?
I opened my eyes wide and pushed the locked door hard.
The door didn't open.
But a pile of dust fell.
"Ahem." I choked to cough and subconsciously took a few steps back.
I caught a glimpse of a familiar figure out of the corner of my eye.
His thin body was a little hunched, and he was in his forties.
Wasn't that the man who collected my money?
"Hey? Don't run."
I roared and ran to the stairs with my bag in my hand.
The man was stunned. He glanced at me and ran downstairs.
But my bag was so heavy that it completely limited my speed.
When I reached the 15th floor, there was a man smoking at the top of the stairs. I stuffed my bag into his arms and said, "Keep it for me. I'm chasing a swindler."
Without the restraint of the bag, I was as light as a swallow.
I finally caught up with the man on the stairs of the eighth floor.
The man gasped for breath and glared at me fiercely. "Girl, don't you want to die? How dare you chase me!"
"Why wouldn't I dare?"
My condition was not any better than his, but I still grabbed his arm and said, "Follow me to the police station! You're a swindler!"
"The police station? Who do you think you are?"
The man shook off my hand hard, and a steel knife appeared in his hand. "I'm so unlucky. Since you dare to destroy my plan, believe it or not, I'll kill you."
My heart skipped a beat. I braced myself and said, "Do you know who I am?"
"I don't care who you are. Go to hell!"
With a fierce look on his face, he fiercely swung the steel knife in his hand and stabbed at me.
