We Grew up together
The lark was at a loss for words. She blushed and asked, "Do you know who I am? I come from the Rodríguez family, Euna Rodriguez."
"I don't know."
What I said was true.
There were so many rich or influential families in this city. After Odette, there came Euna, so I wondered if the ladies here were of mass market retail.
Carroll put his arm around my shoulder. "Euna, my wife is young and innocent, so she still has a lot to learn."
Euna looked at Carroll with wide-open eyes.
She couldn't say a word for a long time.
I looked like a bumpkin while standing next to Carroll, who was born elegant.
It was understandable that Euan was aghast at this union.
Euna quickly came to her senses and once again held Carroll's arm. "I don't care if you have a wife or not. My brother is waiting for you on the top floor. Come with me."
"Let's go. I'll take you to eat something delicious." Carroll turned his head with a smile in his eyes. His black eyes were like unfathomable whirlpools.
I was lost in them for a while.
I followed Carroll to the elevator reserved for VIP and then smoothly reached the top floor.
I saw a weird screen in black and white check, and its patterns, which looked like stone and metal, confused me.
Next to Carroll, I looked around with curiosity.
One could enjoy the scenery around the restaurant through the French window, and few customers were there.
We stopped at the center of the restaurant. A young man sat by the dining table.
The man didn't get up. He raised his head and said provocatively, "Mr. Carroll, it's difficult to see you. If your assistant didn't answer my call today, I would go to your place and shed tears before your coffin to get the contract."
Carroll shot the speaker a disdainful glance. "You may try.."
"Well, you're so mean. Is this the poor Miss Odette?" Speaking, the man poured the red wine from the decanter into Carroll's goblet.
Carroll put his slender hand before my goblet when the decanter approached it. "I heard that Cheuk Restaurant was famous for its special juice. Why don't you let my wife try it?"
With a faint smile, the man snapped his fingers. A waiter in a shirt came over respectfully. "Mr. Rodríguez."
"Bring Miss Odette one glass of juice."
The man attracted all my attention, so I forgot to thank him.
The man wore a silver suit that became eye-catching for the light in the restaurant. His suit was incompatible with his childish face.
He had fair skin, watery eyes, and a red mole under his left eyelid.
That was the coquettish face described in books.
I was enthralled when Carroll pulled out a chair for me. Then, I heard his cold voice by my ear. "I am jealous when you stare at other men like this."
His hot breath awakened me, so my face turned red with embarrassment. I leaned close to Carroll and whispered in his ear.
"Don't be jealous. It is true that he is good-looking, but you are the most handsome man in the world. Moreover, I don't want to be his bestie."
My words were not groundless. The man opposite me had no masculinity, and the pretty women in soap dramas were inferior to him in appearance.
I was stunned by his beauty rather than being fooled by his sexual attraction.
Carroll was the man in my eyes.
"Humph, Owen, look at them." Euna sat beside the beautiful man with anger.
Owen Rodriguez was the man who had leaked the secret about Carroll to Euna. I tried my best to recall what had happened today.
Euna didn't appear here by accident. Carroll and Owen had arranged this meeting a long time ago. Carroll just went shopping with me on the way.
I turned my head and looked curiously at Carroll, who was sitting next to me.
How handsome!
I didn't understand the look in his eyes, but it didn't matter. I didn't care who he was because his kindness to me was real.
Carroll turned his head for my gaze. Then, he put the juice, brought over by the waiter, in front of me. "Drink."
He treated me was if I was his pet.
I took the juice from Carroll and then sipped it. The fragrance of several fruits spread in my mouth. What a pleasant surprise!
The juice was delicious.
Owen couldn't help but laugh. "I didn't expect the decisive and ruthless Mr. Carroll to be so considerate."
"I didn't come for a discussion about me." Carroll didn't raise his head. He seriously cut the steak on his plate into small pieces. Then, he replaced his steak with mine.
Seeing this, Owen snorted coldly and then drank alone. "Mr. Carroll, I have got the contract drafted. If you choose us, the Rodríguez Group will finish the project on time."
"This project is the foundation of Costsley's expansion. The fragrance of meat will attract wolves over. Mr. Rodriguez, you know that, don't you?"
Carroll suddenly raised his head and scrutinized Owen. His gaze was like a sharp knife tearing off Owen's skin and flesh for a look at the heart.
Eating, I felt that the atmosphere was tense.
Owen became ill at ease. He dodged his eye contact with Carroll and glanced at Euna, who sat next to him.
Euna got the hint. With a smile, She said, "Mr. Carroll, the Rodríguez family and the Brown family have been friends for more than three generations. Moreover, you and I grew up together.
"When I was young, my grandmother often had tea with Granny Brown. Back then, I was your tailer.
"Don't you have confidence in the Rodríguez family?
"We share the same interests. Honor one, and you honor us all. Don't you think so?"
How intense!
I enjoyed the dinner and the show at the same time.
Euna threatened Carroll with Old Madame Brown. This confrontation was more interesting than those plots in soap dramas.
Carroll laughed instead of getting mad. He picked up the napkin and elegantly pressed the clean corner of his mouth. "Why don't you talk to Old Madame Brown about cooperation?"
"Come on! If you don't care about me, why have you told Jason to accept this invitation?" Euna held her face and looked at Carroll with affection in her eyes.
"Your bidding," Carroll said casually. Instantly, both Euna and Owen looked bad.
Then, Jason put the contract on the table. Carroll continued, "Your bidding is really attractive. This is the contract. If you have no objection, sign it."
After that, Carroll looked at his watch and said, "You two have half an hour to make a decision."
