Chapter 4296
“I want him to live a long life, at least until we're married, have children, and build our business empire. He can't die before then.
“I don’t need to lift a finger to get revenge on him. As long as I live better than his sons and thrive in happiness, that alone will torment him.”
Caroline did not know if her father would ever regret how he had treated her, not that she cared either way anymore.
Darren nodded. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure he’s taken care of. He actually has a strong spirit. He’ll easily last another decade or more.
“Ms. Caroline, you’re just being all bark and no bite.”
He did not believe Caroline truly sought revenge. She might resent her father, but there was no deep-seated hatred between them, so there was no real need for revenge.
The fact that Hunter had known about his sons’ plot yet stayed silent had angered her, yes, but it was understandable. Compared to his three sons, a daughter like her meant little to him.
In the end, the father and daughter would simply go their separate ways and have no contact.
She would fulfill her financial obligations, nothing less.
Anything beyond that? Not a chance.
“Darren, I want to be discharged next week, on Monday.”
After a moment of surprise, he asked, “Is the company that busy? It’s such a rush. I was hoping you’d stay at least ten days to recover properly.”
“Liberty’s slowly getting the hang of it, and with Duncan advising her, I don’t have to worry.”
Caroline met his gaze, smiling. “I was thinking… On Tuesday or Wednesday, we could finally make it official. Give you the rightful title you deserve.”
Darren was stunned. He had not expected her to bring up registering their marriage.
A smile bloomed on his face. “I thought we agreed to wait until after leaving Jensburg?”
“I changed my mind. Why does location matter? Let’s do it here, where people can celebrate with us. You’re too good. I need to claim you before someone tries to steal you away.”
During her hospitalization, Darren had barely left her side. Every young nurse who entered to change her IV bag or give her medication had stolen glances at him.
Even knowing he only had eyes for her and would never betray her, Caroline refused to tolerate rivals. Once he was legally hers, once everyone knew he was not just her assistant but her husband, no one would dare to even think of trying to make a move on him.
Caroline was no pushover. After the last two years, all of Jensburg understood that she was the one who truly had what it took to stand at the top. She outshone the fake heiress in every way.
This was the Fisher family’s true bloodline.
Celine was not a true Fisher, so despite receiving the best education and Belinda’s nurturing, she had still fallen short of the mark.
Unlike Caroline, who had outmaneuvered every opponent within just three years of her return, leaving her the last one laughing; even stepping aside for Liberty had been her choice.
