Chapter 4292

Our parents raised us and took care of us as kids, so we would care for them in their old age—this was a virtuous custom of theirs. Hunter had not raised Caroline, but it was not because he had shirked his responsibility. It was the result of the former Fisher butler, Marc Dott’s malicious actions. Given the circumstances, it was understandable. Caroline said, “No matter what, he’s still my father. When my three brothers tried to kill me, my dad did advise them against it. He just couldn’t stop them. His mistake was not warning me in advance so I could be on guard.” Of course, she would not reveal to outsiders that she had used herself as bait. Only a few trusted confidants knew the truth. Even Hunter and his sons had no idea that they had only succeeded in hurting her so easily because it was all part of Caroline’s plan. They hated her and wanted her dead, but they would never have succeeded otherwise. “After I reunited with the family, my dad didn’t treat me well. He always favored Celine more, but at least he never openly harmed me.” Hunter simply did not have the ability to make life difficult for Caroline. When she first returned, she had deliberately acted weak and incompetent, fooling everybody into believing she was a hopeless mess. Her father and brothers, still partial to Celine, secretly worked against her. However, they never openly harmed her. This was also because Caroline had played her role so well that no one saw her as a threat. By the time she secured her position and revealed her true self, Hunter and his sons were powerless against her. Meanwhile, their beloved Celine had gradually lost Belinda’s favor and was eventually expelled from the family, with all mother-daughter ties severed. “My mother’s will didn’t require me to provide for my father in his old age. But I still intend to fulfill my filial duty and care for him until his final days.” The two nurses praised Caroline for her generosity. The true heiress truly had a magnanimous heart, far better than the fake one. The ordinary populace had heard plenty of Celine’s past reputation in Jensburg. Now, the grass on the grave of the once-favored successor of the Fisher family was probably a meter tall by now. After the nurses finished changing Caroline’s bandages and left, Darren reminded her of a few things before following them out. Meanwhile, though the hospital security had escorted Hunter out of the inpatient building, he refused to leave. Instead, he stood at the hospital entrance, complaining to every passerby about his “heartless, ruthless daughter”, that she had a falling out with her brothers, so she called the police and had them arrested. He also complained that he had come all this way to plead for mercy on her brothers’ behalf despite his old age, but she refused to see him and had the security guards throw him out. “Have you ever seen such a cold-blooded, ungrateful daughter? I sure haven’t, not until now. And the worst part? She’s my own flesh and blood! “She’s too cruel! She treats me badly too. After my wife passed, she got worse—she refused to provide for me and kicked me out to live alone in the countryside! “An old man like me, left to fend for myself! Sometimes, when the living expenses stop coming, I don’t even know where my next meal will come from!” Hunter did not care if anyone listened. He just kept spewing venom about Caroline to anyone who passed by. However, the onlookers could not help but notice that the man was dressed head-to-toe in designer brands. A Rolex gleamed on his left wrist and multiple gold rings adorned his fingers. Even his leather shoes were a luxury brand most young people could not afford. No matter how they looked at it, he did not look like a man struggling to put food on the table. Unable to hold back any longer, a security guard finally stepped in and told the crowd, “This old man is slandering his daughter. The truth is, that his sons kidnapped her, planning to dismember her and dump her body in the ocean to feed the fish. “She was rescued by the police and his sons were captured. This man ignores the fact that she’s been hospitalized for her injuries and nearly died, and comes here every day to harass her, demanding she sign a letter of forgiveness so his sons can get lighter sentences. “This is a classic case of favoritism. And apparently, his daughter just recently sent him a large sum of money for his living expenses too.” The bystanders realized, “So the father’s the real villain!”
