Chapter 3809
“You don’t have to, then. C’mere, I’ll hug you.” Zachary, concerned that his wife might be tired, took Sonny into his arms. He started chatting with the child, trying to cheer him up.
Seeing Zachary patiently making Sonny laugh and answering every question seriously, no matter how small, Serenity looked at her husband with eyes full of affection and gratitude. She must have saved the world in her past life or something to get to marry Zachary in this lifetime.
As she watched, Serenity felt her eyelids growing heavier and felt sleepy. Before she realized it, she had drifted off to sleep. When she woke up, she was already back at Wildridge Manor in the room she shared with Zachary. The room was quiet, so Sonny was probably not there, and neither was Zachary.
Serenity sat up, noticing her phone on the nightstand. She reached for it and checked the time. It was already two in the afternoon. She had slept that long. After waking up, she felt hungry again. As her belly grew, her appetite, which had always been good, had only increased. It felt like she could never eat enough. At her prenatal check-ups, the doctor had advised her to eat smaller, more frequent meals.
Serenity swung her legs over the side of the bed and stood up before walking over to the heavy curtains and opening them. The sunshine outside was bright and warm.
Winter in Wiltspoon did not feel like winter unless a cold north wind blew their way. On days when the sun was out, it really did not feel like wintertime at all. If a cold front came through, the temperature would drop rapidly.
Sometimes, in the daytime, she might feel warm wearing a long-sleeved shirt and she would wish she were in summer clothes. By nightfall though, it would be cold, and the next day she would need to bundle up in multiple layers as she walked outside shivering and rubbing her hands together, with her shoulders up to her ears as she tried to expose as little of her neck as possible.
However, despite quickly ordering a thick winter coat, the temperature would often rise again before it even arrived, and she would be left not knowing when she could actually wear it. Winter in Wiltspoon truly demonstrated the unpredictable and ever-changing nature of the weather.
After standing by the window for a few minutes, Serenity turned away to leave the room to find something to eat. Just as she reached the door, it was pushed open.
Zachary stood in the doorway, about to come in. When he saw her, he smiled, “Honey, you're up. You must be hungry. I was just about to come and check if you were awake. I was going to call you downstairs to eat before you go back to sleep.”
“I just woke up, and I’m starving. I’ll come down and eat now.”
Zachary took her hand. “I just finished cooking some food for you.”
After they returned, Zachary and the others had eaten first since Serenity had fallen asleep and Zachary could not bear to disturb her rest, allowing her to continue sleeping. Julian and his fiancée had returned to Wiltspoon, so they came by to visit Grandma May. Of course, she then invited them to stay at the manor and dine with them, so they did not wait for Serenity to wake up.
Zachary had not asked the kitchen to save any food for Serenity either. Instead, after everyone had finished eating, he checked the time and personally went to the kitchen to prepare a hearty lunch for her so she could enjoy a freshly made meal when she woke up.
“You could have just saved me some. I don’t mind eating leftovers.” Without needing to ask, Serenity knew he did not want her to eat leftover food.
“I haven’t cooked for you in so long, it’s a good opportunity to show off my skills. Austin now cooks for his fiancée every day. For someone who knows how to cook, making meals for the woman he loves is actually something that gives them a lot of happiness.”
Serenity smiled. “Has Austin made any progress with Isabella?”
“Not yet, but he said she really appreciates him. As long as she appreciates him, it won’t be hard to make her fall in love with him.”
