Chapter 3797
Isabella smiled. “I can give a set of jewelry to you if you want it. The jewelry Louis got me is made of gold. They aren’t that expensive, just tens of thousands of dollars. They’re still not as expensive as yours.”
A set of her mother’s jewelry could cost up to hundreds of millions.
Delphine took the jewelry box from Isabella and opened it. She smiled. “Maybe Louis bought these for you because they're gold and shiny. He’s still young.”
“I never said I didn’t like what he bought.”
Isabella loved Louis’s gift.
“Since this is Louis’s present to you, I shall not take it. Seeing you two having a close relationship is the best thing I can ever ask for.”
Delphine did not say that out of jealousy.
She was glad to see that her children were getting along well.
“Louis said they used Austin’s money to buy everything. He asked us to return the money to Austin.”
Isabella said, “I’ll have Dominic transfer the money to Austin tomorrow.”
“Louis and Phillip must’ve spent a few months’ worth of Austin’s salary. I think Austin has only received his salary once so far.”
Isabella replied, “Austin became our private chef to improve his cooking skills, Mom. He didn’t do it for fame or benefits. He has more than enough money from the hotels, restaurants, and company he owns back in Wiltspoon.”
Delphine knew her daughter had run a background check on Austin before.
Regardless of the position, Isabella would investigate every staff member before they started working for the O’Connors. It ensured that their staff had a clean background and good character.
The O’Connor family would never hire cunning, lazy, and talkative people.
“Austin is nice. Our family members like him.” Delphine complimented Austin.
“I envy his parents.”
Louis would only be seven years old next year. It would still be over ten years before he became an adult. She did not know if he could be as outstanding as Austin after growing up.
Although Austin was a chef and enjoyed cooking, he knew how to run a business and had a successful career.
Delphine estimated that his career was far better than she thought because of Isabella's positive view of him.
Isabella admired excellence.
If Austin only operated fast-food restaurants and small-scale hotels, it would be considered decent to other people but far from successful to the O’Connors.
Isabella would not be as polite to Austin or respect him as a chef.
Delphine guessed that Austin’s businesses in Wiltspoon were flourishing and that he probably had a net worth of hundreds of millions of dollars. With that many assets, he was definitely successful.
Besides, Austin was young and of similar age as Isabella.
Her daughter had become the CEO of a huge company in her twenties. However, she simply took over a family business established and developed by generations of O’Connors before her. Thus, her wealth was not accumulated from scratch.
“You don’t have to be jealous of Austin’s parents, Mom. Louis will do well in the future.”
While Isabella admired Austin, she did not want her mother to belittle Louis.
Delphine smiled. “Louis is still young. We don’t know what will happen yet. I’ll be content if he can help you protect our family business when he grows up. I don’t expect much. I just want him to be healthy. Health is more important than anything else.”
Indeed, health was wealth.
“We should call it a day. Go back to your room and rest. It’s rare that you’re back this early. You should go to bed instead of being on your phone or working.”
Delphine urged Isabella to rest.
“I asked Austin to make me some food. I didn’t eat anything tonight.”
Upon hearing that, Delphine was worried. “Wasn’t there anything you could eat there? Why didn’t you inform us and have Austin make you something earlier? That way, you could’ve had something to eat once you returned.
“You’re too picky. Even the best chefs can’t last half a year in our house. It’s a miracle if they can even work for three months.
“There aren’t that many skilled chefs around, Isabella. What will happen to you if no one applies for the job in the future? Are you going to die of hunger?
“Actually, the food the other chefs make is tasty.”
