Chapter 19

*JANELLE* “Because of what?”I asked, curiously. But he smiled and reached out to put a messy strand of hair behind my ear. "I don’t mean to intrude but I noticed you were going through something, you know, with your mom. If you ever need any help, I’m always available." He had helped me a lot in the past, so I smiled and shook my head. What I should be doing now is looking for ways to repay him. "You're too stubborn."He chided with a smile. I licked my lips. It was not that I didn't need his help, but I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able pay him back. I was impoverished. “It's getting dark. Don't you want to go home, Doctor Marco?" I asked. "Janelle." He looked at me. "Don't call me Doctor Marco any more, okay?" He looked at me seriously and said, "Call me by my name. We have known each other for such a long time, but you always call me Doctor Marco. That sounds like we are not close. What do you think?" I thought for a moment. He was older than me, and he used to take care of me like a big brother. "Then I'll call you brother?" “I’ll take that.” Marco moved closer and hugged me. "Call me brother from now on." Marco used to hug me all the time back then in an effort to console me. I leaned into his arms, really appreciating his hug right now. *************** *DONOVAN* "Ovan, is that Janelle?" I was driving home with Laura when she said to me. I looked towards the direction she was pointing at. It was indeed Janelle and she looked so relaxed in a man’s arms. I frowned. “I didn't expect she has a boyfriend."Laura let out. I couldn’t explain why I felt pissed. He pressed the accelerator to the end and drove off at a fast speed. Laura asked.”Are you angry?" I sneered. "Why should I be angry?" She was pregnant. She must have a boyfriend! It felt different when knowing that she had a boyfriend and seeing that man. I was somehow annoyed. Soon, the car stopped at Laura’s residence. She did not get off immediately but looked at me. "Do you want to come in?" She quickly added, "Ovan, I prepared your favorite…” “Laura." I interrupted her. I didn't know what had happened to me. I felt disturbed but I reached out my hand to smooth her hair. "Not today. You should go to bed early." "But…” She paused and got out of the car obediently. "Drive slowly." I answered softly and drove away. I drove at full speed all the way, Janelle had not come back yet when I got home. I unbuttoned my shirt. "When did she go out?" "At noon."Joan took the coat from my hand. “Do you want to have dinner now?" "Wait for a while." I had no appetite. I undid two buttons on my shirt even if it was not tight, but I just felt suffocated. This strange feeling made me very uncomfortable! I pushed the door of the study room, the note left by Janelle was still on the desk. I picked it up and sneered. "You're really good, Janelle. You're putting on a show in front of me while hanging out with another man!" The paper was crumpled into a ball in my hand. ************** *JANELLE* I took a taxi back home. Marco wanted to send me home but I didn't want him to know about my relationship with Ovan, so I refused. There was only Joan in the house. I thought that Ovan had not come back yet, so I felt relaxed. As I walked into the house in a good mood, Joan asked, "Why are you so happy?" I smiled and replied.”I just feel more comfortable when he's not here." Joan looked surprised. And before she could speak, a voice interrupted her. “Do you mean that I'm not supposed to be here?" That voice… I turned around stiffly and saw the man leaning against the door with a gloomy look. "Why, why is he at home?" I didn't see him when I came back. I instinctively thought he was not there, so I didn't think too much before saying that "I..." Just as I was about to explain, Ovan walked past me to the kitchen and tell Joan to prepare dinner. I sat in front of the dining table and tried to explain several times, but failed to find an excuse. Ovan didn't look at me throughout, but when he finished his meal, he said, "Come with me." I put down my spoon and followed him into the study. He sat at the desk, put the document I translated on the table, and lightly glanced at me. "Can you speak the language of Argan?" I nodded frankly. “Why did you learn this language? It is a rare international language." Speaking of the place where I had lived for many years, I felt too much pain in my heart. However, no one could feel the pain. Only I knew how embarrassing and unbearable it was. I didn't want to show it in front of others. With a seemingly relaxed smile on my face, I said, "I liked it, so I learned it." Ovan frowned, studying me. "Come here," he said in a deep voice. I was unwilling. I didn’t understand this man, but now I had to deal with him. He gently moved his feet and came over. Ovan put a document in front of me. "Since you can, you need to translate this document for me." I lowered my head and found that the top right corner of the folder was printed with the words the JG Group. Last night, I was busy with translating documents and paid no attention to the mark on the upper right corner of the document. I couldn't help but raise my head. "Didn't you recruit an interpreter?" Ovan raised his eyebrows slightly. I took the document and whispered, "I went to your company to apply for a job as an interpreter. At first, they were quite satisfied with me, but later, I didn't know why they said I was not qualified." “Is that true?" I nodded. There was no need for me to lie.
