Chapter 17
*JANELLE*
They had appeared to be satisfied with me.
What went wrong?
Maybe they found someone more qualified than me.
I decided to just accept my fate.
Nothing would change by overthinking it.
************
In the evening.
Donovan shut himself in the study as soon as he came back. It seemed he was busy with work.
I heard about his favorite dishes from Joan, so I prepared dinner myself.
Joan smiled and said, "You’re a good woman and you’ll make a good wife to Donovan.”
I lowered my head and smiled. If I didn't need his help, I wouldn't take the initiative to flatter him.
Joan sighed. "Madam passed away very early. The master married another woman. Young master rarely goes back. Although he looks cold, he is actually a good man.”
I didn't say anything and just listened quietly.
“Miss Laura saved the young master when she was a child. Later when she grew up, she became his secretary and followed the young master all the time. Young master didn't like her before. Since he came back from that business trip, his attitude towards her changed. But you don't have to worry about it. Anyway, you are the real woman of this house.”Joan patted me on the shoulder, in an effort to comfort me.
I lowered my head and smiled bitterly.
I really couldn't say anything about this.
Although we were husband and wife, we were like strangers to each other.
I knew the true nature of this marriage clearly.
I looked at the study and thought of the black coffee that was made by Laura in the morning, so I asked,”Joan, where are the coffee beans? I want to make him a pot of coffee."
Hearing that Joan knew I really wanted to please him, so she took out the coffee beans for me and told me, "Don't add sugar and milk. Young master doesn't like sweet things."
I nodded, and soon made a pot of coffee. I poured the coffee into a delicate coffee cup and carried it to him in person.
As I got close to the door of the study, I heard his voice, he seemed to be making a phone call.
"What's wrong with the personnel department? Is it so difficult to recruit an interpreter?"
He sounded really grumpy.
"Tell the personnel manager, I'll give him one day. If he can't find an interpreter, let him pack up and leave!"
Tentatively, I knocked on the door.
"Come in!"
That sounded angrier.
My heart skipped a beat. He was angry?
But I had knocked on the door. Even if he was angry, I had to force myself to walk in.
I tried to smile. "I made you a cup of coffee."
Donovan’s eyes slowly moved from mu face to the coffee in my hand. He narrowed his eyes slightly.
I knew he was probably wondering why.
We were supposed to stay away from each other.
He set down his cellphone, sat down, and watched me, quietly, as if he wanted to read my motive of making him a cup of coffee.
"I don't know if you like it." I put the coffee on the table.
Donovan didn't move, his body was relaxed, and he leaned back in his chair lazily.
I pressed on, "Would you like to have a try?"
He raised his eyebrows and sneered.”I know why you’re doing this. You think I won’t figure out the reason why you’re suddenly being nice to me. Do you want to ask me about the land of the Beacon Bay?"
I was stunned. I never thought that he could think of it so quickly.
Suddenly, he grabbed my chin and said, "This is the real reason why the Moore family wanted you to marry me regardless of me being a lame man?"
He grabbed me firmly, and I felt a strong pain.
I opened my mouth and wanted to explain.
But how could I explain?
"Tell me, is that the reason?”
"I…I…”
"Get out!" Donovan shook me off.
I was thrown by him hard, and my arm accidentally knocked over the coffee. The black liquid soaked the documents on the table.
His face completely darkened.
I had never thought that things would turn out like this, so I quickly wiped it.
Donovan took the documents away and scolded harshly, "Didn’t you hear me? Get out!"
He looked so disgusted with me.
I had to head for the door.
“Wait, take this thing out!"Donovan looked so annoyed.
I took out the coffee cup.
At dinner time, I finished eating and went back to my room.
I sighed, silently.
He really had a bad temper. It was difficult to get close to him.
Not to mention getting the land to win the initiative in front of Gary.
I lay on the bed after taking a shower. I couldn't fall asleep after, so I got up from the bed.
I felt a little sorry at the thought of pouring the coffee onto the document.
I wanted to make up for it, so I went to his study.
I turned on the light, and the wet document was still on the table. At that time, I noticed that the document was the handwriting of Argan.
The place soaked in coffee was almost impossible to see clearly.
I found a clean paper and copied the words on the document. I knew that the characters in the country were not popular. In order to apologize, I translated them into English for him to read.
I didn't finish translating and copying a dozen of documents until three o'clock in the middle of the night.
I put down the pen and rubbed my sore wrist. I pinned the documents according to the order, put them on the desk, and then went back to the room to sleep.
