Chapter 14
*JANELLE*
When I walked into my mother’s house, I saw her sitting on a chair and crying.
It felt as if my heart was torn apart.
I could tell she noticed my presence but she didn’t look at me.
She only let go.”Leave, Elle, I don’t want to see you right now.”
"Mom..."
“This is all my fault, if I hadn’t chosen the wrong husband, the wrong father for my children, this wouldn’t have happened, Danica is dead and you…you…I ruined both your lives!” She burst into tears again, she couldn't stop crying.
I rushed over and hugged her.
We both clung onto each other and cried, venting out the pain in their heart.
After a long time, we finally calmed down.
I told my mom about the deal with Donovan and told her not to worry about me or my pregnancy ruining my marriage or my name.
I wasn’t in a real marriage anyway.
My mom was shocked to hear that.
At the end, we were both on the same page.
After the one month marriage was over, I’d move back in with her and the three of us would live together and try to be happy.
***********
In the evening, when I returned to the villa, Donovan was not there. After dinner, I walked around in the yard to relax, exploring the large villa.
When night fell, I headed back to my room. I felt thirsty, so I went to the kitchen to have a cup of water.
After having some water, I was ready to go back to the room to sleep. A sound came from the front door, then the door was opened.
A tall figure stepped in, followed by a beauty behind him.
I was stunned.
I had not expected that Donovan would bring back the woman he was in a relationship with to this house.
The woman also looked stunned when she saw me. "Isn't she the woman we saw at the hospital?”
She raised her head and looked at Donovan. His well-defined face was very cold.
“You said you didn’t know her?”
“I…I should go.”I let out, not really wanting to be in their presence right now.
“Wait." Donovan looked at me with a deep gaze.
He looked so upset.
What was his problem?
“Laura is the only woman of this house, do you understand?”
I felt that it was unnecessary for him to say so.
I never regarded myself as the woman of the house in the first place.
Why did he bother to stress it?
"I know. I'll go to bed now.”I turned around and walked toward the stairs.
“Hey." Laura looked at me and said, "I'm sorry."
I frowned.
What was she apologizing for?
"Although you and Donovan are married, I have known him before you did. If it weren't for you, I would be the one who’s married to him now. We love each other, so…”
"So what?"
Why was she telling me this?
It was none of my business.
I knew exactly who she was, and I wasn’t standing in their way.
“I just feel that since you married Ovan and he doesn’t love you, you must be unhappy. I feel sorry for you."
“There's no need for you to feel sorry for me."
Normally, shouldn't we avoid interfering with each other in this kind of awkward situation?
Was she doing this to show her kindness in front of Donovan?
Somehow, I didn't like her at all.
I had a very bad feeling about her.
Donovan glared at me.”What sort of attitude is that?"
I pursed my lips.
What was wrong with my attitude?
I just wanted to spend this month peacefully and take back what belonged to me and my mom, and then I would leave.
Didn’t Donovan tell his woman about the plan?
Why was she making it seem as if I wanted him?
“What do you want me to say?"
I didn't even know what to say to him and Laura.
Should I say, I'm sorry, I should have broken the agreement from the start and then face the penalty?
Gary would not let me hear the end of it.
This marriage was decided by both of our families.
I shouldn’t be held accountable for something that was planned by others!
Donovan squinted at me and stepped forward calmly.
I tried not to be intimidated by him. "I didn't do anything wrong, did I?"
Laura came up and took his arm. “Ovan, don't be angry. It's my fault. I shouldn't have said that. She just came here. I shouldn't have to come here as well. You should have a rest. I'll leave now."
“It's not you who should leave." He grabbed her wrist and led her upstairs.
*****************
Laura felt so delighted.
Although Donovan had already said that he would be with her and never leave her, she didn’t fully believe because their relationship had been built on deception.
She didn’t believe he had true feelings for her.
But today, he made her overjoyed.
Laura looked back and happened to see Janelle entering a room. She was very skinny.
Laura suddenly noticed that she was very similar to the girl that night.
That night, she had enough when she found a virgin for Donovan regardless of her jealousy. She didn't want to see what kind of girl Donovan was having sex with.
She only saw the girl's skinny back when she left.
No wonder that Janelle looked so familiar to her.
She had been thinking about Janelle since they saw her at the hospital.
It turned out that this kind of familiarity did not come out of anywhere.
Laura panicked when she thought that the woman that night might be Janelle.
It couldn’t be!
