Chapter 1696 The Golden Arowana Fish

The Regis Tower was located halfway up the mountain. The wind was a little strong. It would be extremely cold for one to sit here and fish. Furthermore, in the winter, fish were even less likely to take the bait. Regis had been sitting there for quite some time, but he had yet to catch a fish. “How about we go inside first?” Olympias urged, her heart aching for Regis once she noticed his condition. “No. The fish has yet to be caught. I can’t go into the house. Once I go back, I won’t get another chance.” “Why do you have to catch the fish?” Olympias was puzzled. Regis chuckled and said, “Because I want to personally cook it for you.” Deep down, Olympias was shocked. Some old memories suddenly emerged in her mind. She remembered that day as a chilly winter day as well. Furthermore, winter was bitterly cold that year, with snow falling down from the sky. Regis was gone for about two months at the time. He brought a fish back with him when he returned. Olympias happened to be playing near the pond at that time. When Regis put a golden fish the size of a palm into the pond, she thought of it as strange. “Grandpa, what kind of fish is this? It looks so beautiful,” little Olympias looked at the golden fish and asked curiously. “This is an Arowana fish,” Regis patiently explained. “I used a lot of effort to catch it this time.” “Grandpa, you haven’t been home for the past two months. Were you trying to catch this fish the whole time?” Olympias giggled as she blinked her brilliant big eyes. “You’re so silly, Grandpa. This pond is full of Arowana fish. Why do you still bother to catch them?” Regis shook his head repeatedly and said, “Girl, this is not an ordinary Arowana fish. It grows in the Welkin Lake of the Norster Tips. It cannot be compared to the average Arowana fish.” “Then Grandpa, what’s so special about it?” Regis smiled and stroked little Olympias’ head a few times before explaining, “I can’t explain it to you right now, but you’ll know the reason when you’re all grown up.” “What?” Looking rather puzzled, Olympias said, “It’s so beautiful. It must have tasted delicious.” Regis was stunned for a few seconds. Then he burst into loud laughter. “Twenty years later, when this Arowana fish grows up, I’ll catch and cook it for you.” That was Regis and Olympias’ agreement at that time. Even though it appeared to be a joke, the former still remembered it until now. “Grandpa, I was just joking back then.” Olympias took a deep breath and said, “It’s been twenty years since then. That Arowana fish has probably been gone for a long time. It’s such a cold day. Why don’t we go inside?” “Hush!” Regis became serious at that point. He tutted at Olympias to stay quiet while fixing his gaze solemnly on the fish bait. His body tensed up out of nervousness. Not many things could make the current patriarch of the White family nervous, so the Arowana fish was definitely very important to him. The fish bait that had been floating on the surface of the water suddenly sank to the bottom. Regis yanked the fishing rod into the sky with such force that the entire fishing line was instantly straightened out. “I have been waiting for you all night! You finally took the bait, hahaha!” Regis’ thunderous laugh was as joyful as a child’s. He coughed violently as a result. The fishing rod was severely bent and the fishing line was straightened. Under the pond’s surface, a fish was swimming back and forth. It had a tremendous amount of strength; in fact, it was surprisingly powerful. That small fish gave people the impression that it weighed several dozens of kilograms. Regis continued to wander along the shore, clutching his fishing rod firmly. That fish was gradually pulled to the water surface. The fish was gold in color and resembled bright golden light. Its golden halo was also quite dazzling, and its body appeared to be polished gold. Olympias appeared to be flabbergasted. She’d never seen an Arowana fish like this before. She was mesmerized by the fish’s appearance when she first laid her eyes on it. This fish was approximately thirty centimeters long and weighed between one and two kilograms. Its body was golden all over, and the scales, which were embedded piece by piece on the fish’s body, appeared to be a perfect work of art. This fish was absolutely stunning, so lovely that it was a joy to behold. At the same time, it was odd that this Arowana fish had been growing in the pond for twenty years but only weighed one to two kilograms, as if it hadn’t grown much during that time. Regis dragged the fish to the shore carefully. Olympias kept herself busy as well. She got the fishing net from a nearby spot right away and grabbed the fish with it. “Grandpa, why is this fish still so small after growing for twenty years?” Olympias asked Regis while she removed the hook. “Because this fish only eats magical herbs, and it only eats certain amounts of magical herbs every day,” Regis explained with a smile. “It will only be able to grow to this size in twenty years.” Olympias discovered at this time that the bait on Regis’s fish hook was not ordinary at all. It was a magical herb that was crystal clear and appeared to be carved out of white jade. The Arowana fish had eaten half of the magical herb at this point, and the other half still exuded an intoxicating aroma. “Time to go, Girl!” Regis’s mood improved dramatically after they caught the fish. He appeared to be in good spirits. Ortwin was cleaning up the room when the two walked into the building together. He asked, “You have caught it?” Seeing the golden Arowana fish that Regis was holding in his hand, Ortwin put down the broom in his hand with a look of surprise. “Hahaha, I’ve caught it!. Uncle Ortwin, you may begin preparing the ingredients right away. I’m going to steam this fish myself.” Ortwind suggested, “How about you take a break and I’ll take care of the cooking?” “No, I’m going to do it myself.” As a result, Regis started to get busy as he wanted to prepare a steamed fish dish. He only took out the internal organs and kept the scales. It gave the impression that this Arowana fish was extremely precious. Regis did not discard the internal organs, even though they had been removed. Instead, Ortwin grabbed a box and began packing them up. It was said that after the internal organs were dried, they would become an extremely valuable elixir. Regis was in charge of everything from the beginning of the preparation to the steaming of the fish. It took him a long time to steam the fish; a whopping ten hours was needed for the cooking process as opposed to the ten minutes’ cooking time for normal fish to be cooked. Simultaneously, he must control the duration and degree of heating during the steaming of the fish. The flames mustn’t be too strong nor too weak. Ortwin had spent the entire afternoon in front of the stove, meticulously controlling the fire. Olympias stayed with Regis for the whole day. She accompanied him to play chess and took walks with him outside while keeping an eye on him. Throughout the process, both of them had an unspoken agreement to stay away from past events and family matters. Even if they were conversing, they would divert their attention away from the topic at hand and discuss something more enjoyable. The entire day slipped away before they knew it.
