Chapter 1697 Eat While It’s Hot
Regis’ good mood dampened slightly as he stared at the gradually darkening sky. “Girl, it’s almost night time,” he said with a sigh. “It’s time for us to go home.”
“Okay.”
Olympias nodded and helped Regis back to the house. The Arowana fish had already been cooked at this point. Ortwin also prepared a variety of other dishes. They were all simple dishes, but they all looked delicious.
Regis sat down at the table. His face appeared to be a little pale. Every few seconds, he coughed several times.
“Master, you are unwell now. Why don’t you return to your room and rest for a while?” Ortwin became increasingly concerned as he watched Regis cough.
Regis shook his head in refusal. “Uncle Ortwin, I’m fine. All I want to do is have a good meal with Oly. You should also take a seat. Let’s eat together.”
In the end, Ortwin didn't say much and chose to obey Regis’ command.
Olympias sat on the side too. She was also concerned about Regis’ health, but she remained silent in the end.
Regis may not be able to last much longer in his current state. This could be the old man’s final wish. In that case, they should grant him his wish to eat together.
Regis pushed that steamed Arowana fish in front of Olympias. He urged, “Girl, you should have this fish tonight. You must finish all of it. I won’t tolerate any leftovers.”
Olympias stared at Regis blankly and asked, “Grandpa, why do you want me to eat this by myself? Don’t you two want to share it with me?”
Regis shook his head and said, “It’s pointless for me to eat this.”
“Me too.” Ortwin smiled on the side, “Just enjoy it, Young Lady. Don’t waste your grandpa's hard work.”
Olympias nodded dumbfoundedly before picking up a piece with her fork.
Even though this Arowana fish had been cooked, it was still bright golden. The scales, in particular, looked like refined pieces of gold. When it was put into the mouth, there was nothing special about it. It tasted like ordinary fish, but the meat had a light aroma which filled her senses immediately.
Olympias could clearly feel a clear stream of energy running down from her throat all the way to her stomach after eating it. She felt a warm sensation in her stomach after that.
“Is it delicious?” Both Regis and Ortwin stared at Olympias with expectant eyes.
“It’s delicious.” Olympias nodded subconsciously. “Why don’t you two have some too?”
“No. You should have it.”
Regis and Ortwin were acting like typical parents at the time, pretending they didn't like the food so that they could give the children the best parts.
Regis immediately picked up another piece for Olympias. “This fish should be eaten while it is still hot,” he advised. “When it’s cold, it won’t taste as good.”
“Oh!”
Olympias kept eating. The more she ate, the more she noticed that the fish’s aroma was becoming increasingly tangy. She felt a strange force boiling up in her body after she finished the whole fish, which was a fantastic sensation. Olympias couldn’t pinpoint why, but she did notice that her inner strength had increased significantly.
“Grandpa, does eating this fish boost my cultivation power?” Olympias asked subconsciously.
“Those who eat the Arowana fish from Welkin Lake can gain twenty years of cultivation power, live longer, and retain their youth,” Regis replied with a grin.
Olympias was shocked. “Is it true?”
“You’ll find out if it’s true or not in the future,” Regis replied.
Regis studied the plate of fish that Olympias had just cleared. All that was left on the plate was fish bones, which made him nod in satisfaction. Ortwin was quick to bring an intricate box and placed the fish bones carefully into it.
“It will become another great elixir after the bones are all dried up.”
Olympias felt a pang of sadness all of a sudden, having realized something. When her grandfather disappeared for two months back then, he actually went to Welkin Lake to catch that Arowana fish. His ultimate goal was to prepare the fish for her.
This fish might have been served on her dining table ten years ago if there hadn’t been an accident in her family at the time. As a result, the Arowana fish had lived for an extra ten years before the fateful meal could take place.
“Girl, you’re still thinking about the incident regarding your father, aren’t you?” Regis asked as he took a bite of the pork chop on the table.
Olympias didn’t know how to answer.
“I am already overjoyed that you can visit me today. It also shows that you no longer think of me as badly as you did back then, right?”
Olympias was silent for a moment before replying, “Grandpa, let’s not talk about this today.”
“I have to say something about it.” Regis stood his ground stubbornly.
“Back then, I valued your father the most,” he explained. “I was serious about passing down the patriarchal position to him, but I didn't anticipate that people would be so evil and that such a thing would actually occur.
“I got to the bottom of your father’s matter later, but I didn’t pursue it because the fammily was worried about domestic problems and foreign invasion at the time. It might shake the family’s foundation if I were to investigate it thoroughly. Our foundation of a few centuries would be ruined.
“It’s said that life is lonely at the top, and I’m powerless to do anything about it. Even if I knew the answer, all I could do was to seal the answer in the Sealed Chamber. I’m not going to tell you who the real culprit is despite the fact that my time is approaching now. Would you blame me for that, girl?”
Olympias said with a smile, “The spoken answer may not be the truth.”
“That’s true,” Regis put down his fork and stood up staggeringly, as if he couldn’t stand steadily.
Olympias rushed up to assist him.
Regis then staggered toward the window, where he could overlook the entire White family below.
“Girl, the foundation of our family for over two centuries is far more than what you see right now. In addition, our family has power and influence in many ancient martial arts organizations. We also control a large number of resources and contacts in the Second World abroad. In the ancient martial arts world, there are eight more families like ours.
“In addition to us, there are mega organizations such as the Boulderfists Sect, the Sabres, and others that have been passed down for years. Even though these Creeds and large organizations have appeared to be peaceful on the surface over the years, they have been fighting with both open and covert means. Right now, the battle is getting more heated as we speak. Others will take advantage of the opportunity to pounce and devour a weakened force.
“At the same time, the ancient martial arts world has a plethora of small and medium-sized organizations. Once our White family's foundation is harmed, these small organizations will stab us in the back. After all, the whole world can easily benefit from a fallen great whale.
“Now that I’m about to die, there are already a lot of people in the ancient martial arts world who are eager to make a move against us.”
