Chapter 985 Does Insulting Me Make You Happy?

I felt a jolt. I had rushed over here without paying attention to the bruise. "It... was just from meeting a friend. I got the bruise from trying on clothes while shopping. The clothing was too tight," I blurted out. It was the only explanation I could come up with. "Ha!" He suddenly laughed coldly. "A piece of clothing did this? What kind of clothing leaves such marks? Yvette, do you think I'm an idiot?" I really wanted to say, yes, he was an idiot! A nosy idiot at that. However, I considered the fact that provoking him would likely lead him to investigate further, causing more trouble for me. Hence, I pressed my lips together and continued to lie, "Many winter sweaters can be tight around the neck. Of course, you wouldn’t know if you don't wear turtlenecks!" He seemed to be amused by my anger. He suddenly grabbed my hand and lifted it, saying, "The neck bruise might be from the clothing, but what about your hand? How did you get this wound?" Looking at the cut on my hand from when Lucas had an episode, I froze. I had forgotten about this evidence. Seeing me unable to find a convincing excuse, he laughed coldly while eyeing me. He asked, spitting out the words one at a time, "Yvette, will you tell me, or shall I investigate?" "Why are you so obsessed with me?" I asked, looking at him. My initial panic had turned into cold disdain. Idris met my gaze, pausing momentarily before frowning. "What?" I stared at him and spat out each word deliberately, "Does my injury have anything to do with you? Idris, do you think you’re being very attentive right now, noticing whatever happens to me? Do you think you’re being amazing, and that I must be madly in love with you? Is my heart constantly racing when I’m in your presence?" My sarcastic tone made Idris’s brows knit together tightly, and he watched me silently. I shook off his grip on my wrist, stepping back with utter disgust, and continued, "I thought after that incident outside the Scott Corporation building, you would understand what you mean to me. But I clearly underestimated your shamelessness. I've seen clingy before, but you've reached new heights!" "Yvette!" My words were indeed hurtful, and his expression instantly darkened. "Does insulting me make you happy?" "Huh..." I could not help but laugh. "Happy? What a joke." Looking him in the eye, I said emphatically, "I'm disgusted. I feel sick when I see you, Idris. I'm begging you, please just disappear from my world. Just stay far away, alright? Stop bothering me, and stop disgusting me. For the sake of us having been husband and wife once, can you do that for me?" The temperature in the air seemed to freeze instantly, as if frost had invaded and solidified everything. Our eyes met, and I could almost clearly see the fury swirling in Idris's eyes. I pursed my lips, bracing against the fear and holding his gaze head-on. I was prepared for him to hit me. Nonetheless, he was too noble. I did not see the anger I was expecting. After a long while, I watched him shift his gaze from me, full of disappointment, and then turn around to leave without saying a word. Watching his retreating figure, I let out a sigh of relief. I was grateful for his restraint. Otherwise, if it had been anyone else just now, I might not have been able to avoid getting slapped. After all, there were not as many shameless people these days. I calmed my uneasy emotions in the restroom before returning to the private room. Idris's seat in the room was now empty. Upon seeing me return, Sally engaged me in conversation, asking about my plans for the next few days and suggesting a visit to some of Tully City's famous sights if I was free. I was about to decline, but she insisted, "I'm also free these days. Don't rush back to Lake City. Let's enjoy Tully City for a few days." I had already explored much of Tully City's scenery in earlier years, but thinking of Lucas, I nodded and smiled. "Alright, it's rare for me to come here. Let's plan to explore Tully City together." Pleased with my agreement, Sally turned to the two girls, asking if there were any places they wanted to visit in the next few days. Ramona's enthusiasm was visibly low, probably due to not feeling well from the change in environment, so she just looked at Sonya silently as she answered Sally. When Sally looked at her, she softly said, "I'll go with whatever Mom decides." Perhaps because the girl's response was too indifferent, Sally nodded but did not press further. Then, the room fell quiet. Only then did Sally notice that Idris, who had gone out earlier, had not come back. She turned to me, feeling puzzled. "Yvette, where did Mr. Young go? Why hasn't he returned after so long?"
