Chapter 983 Decided to Take Care of Him
She stopped me and said, "I know you're worried that Mr. Lucas's situation might drag me down, but as long as neither of us mentions that Mr. Lucas is here with us, even if people outside know of Mr. Lucas's existence, they all think he's already dead, right? Even if one day he is truly discovered, I'll just tell the police I felt sorry for him, so I took him in to take care of him, not knowing his real identity. Isn't ignorance basically innocence?"
Her logic left me momentarily stunned, and I could not find words to argue against it.
Seeing that I was silent, she continued, "Ms. Scott, what's most important now is to quickly find a way to help Mr. Lucas detox. It's really dangerous when Mr. Lucas has his episodes. We need to be prepared in advance."
I nodded, agreeing that was all we could do.
In the afternoon, Astoria and I rechecked Lucas's room to ensure there were no items that could be used to harm himself or others, and then we checked the entire courtyard again.
Unable to send Lucas to a detox center, we had no choice but to search online for various methods of detoxification and medications that could be used. We spent all afternoon organizing the information. It was only when Astoria went to the kitchen to prepare something to eat that I noticed the screen of my phone on the table lighting up repeatedly.
"Ms. Scott, your phone seems to be constantly ringing!"
After organizing the information I had gathered, I picked up my phone and saw that Minerva had called me more than a dozen times, and there were also calls from Sally. I suddenly remembered that we had talked about meeting up in the evening after the signing ceremony.
Remembering this, I glanced at the time and saw it was already 6 p.m. I quickly called Minerva back, and her anxious voice came through. "Ms. Scott, are you alright?"
Her question puzzled me for a moment, and I replied, "I'm fine. I just had my phone on silent and didn't hear your calls. What time did you and Sally plan dinner for?"
"At 6:30 p.m. I sent you a message with the time as soon as I confirmed it. Didn't you see it, Ms. Scott?" I felt somewhat embarrassed and apologetically said, "I've been busy and didn't have a chance to check my phone. Did you send the address too? I'll be there as soon as possible."
She hummed in acknowledgment. After hanging up, I looked at Astoria, who had overheard my conversation, and said with a smile, "Ms. Scott, go ahead with your plans. Dr. Wacket mentioned at noon that he gave Mr. Lucas medication, so he shouldn't have an episode for a while. Plus, you just went to check on him, didn't you? Mr. Lucas hasn't woken up yet. Go ahead, and don’t worry. I've been researching all day, so I know a little about how to deal with patients during an episode. If anything happens, I'll call you or the doctor immediately."
She sounded sincere, and I nodded slightly, saying, "Astoria, thank you."
As I was pressed for time, I grabbed my bag and coat and rushed out.
The restaurant Minerva had mentioned was not far, and it took me about fifteen minutes by taxi to get there.
Seeing Minerva waiting outside the restaurant, she approached me as I got out of the car, asking, "Ms. Scott, where did you and Astoria go this afternoon? Neither of you answered your phones. You scared me! Tully City might seem peaceful, but with the border conflict, if some bad guys had targeted you, who knows what could have happened?"
I smiled, reassuring her, "What are you thinking? I was just chatting with Astoria and got carried away. Don't exaggerate."
She pouted. "Well, it's hard not to worry when neither of you answered your phones."
After chatting and laughing, we entered the restaurant. She said, "Ms. Sanchez arrived a little while ago. I couldn't get through to you, so I called her to ask. I was wondering if maybe you had gone to see Ms. Sanchez, but I ended up making her worry about you too."
It was no wonder there were several missed calls from Sally on my phone.
Glancing at her, I said helplessly, "You didn't happen to call Idris too, did you?"
She nodded guiltily, her expression cautious. "I couldn't get through to you... I was really worried, so I asked everyone I knew."
I held my forehead, at a loss for words for a moment. However, it was odd that Idris had only sent me a message asking where I was instead of calling. When had he become so quiet?
Though I could not figure it out, I did not dwell on it.
Upon entering the restaurant and following the waiter to the private room where Sally was, I pushed open the door. That was when the smile on my lips froze. I had intended to greet Sally warmly, but…
