Chapter 793 Pulverized To A Pulp

However, Jennie was taken aback by the glance. Still settling against her chair, Vickie curled her lips into a slight smile and her eyes were bright as usual. There were no signs of anger. Perplexed and a little lost, Jennie probed. “Sister, aren’t... you angry?” Vickie lifted a brow. “Why should I be angry?” “I...” She bit her lip and held her tongue. Vickie smiled. She faintly uttered, “You are genuinely concerned about me and not here to criticize me. I’m not unfamiliar that good advice can be unpleasant on the ear.” Jennie heaved a sigh of relief within upon hearing these words. She added. “Sister, it’s great that you understand. Are you still leaving?” Vickie nodded. She lifted her arm to pour herself a cup of tea before leaning over to fill Jennie’s cup to the brim. Vickie answered, “I have to go, Jennie. I can only tell you that I won’t hurt the innocent but I have to take back whatever that’s owed to me in this world. “You might think that I’m seeking vengeance over a petty matter by doing so, but this is the only way to do good by those who have died. I must go.” Jennie had a vacant look in her eyes. It was obvious that she did not quite grasp the meaning behind Vickie’s words. Not minding the slightest, Vickie grinned and pointed at the cup of tea in front of her. “Have some more tea. I’ll send you home after you’re done.” Jennie lowered her line of vision and gazed at the tea beside her hand as she remained silent for a moment. After deciding against continuing the subject at hand, she picked up the cup and took a few sips. The pair took it easy for a while before leaving the hotpot restaurant. Vickie did not drive here while Jennie was merely an ordinary pink-collar worker who could not afford a car. Hence, the two of them stood by the roadside and waited for a cab. Since they had nothing to do while waiting for a car there, the pair engaged in a casual chat. After the conversation in the restaurant, Jennie knew that it was impossible to change Vickie’s mind. Instead of reinventing the wheel, she happily shared her upcoming plans with Vickie. Jennie had in hand the hundred thousand bucks Vickie gave her and she planned to open up a clothing store. Business was not great for physical shops due to the shift into e-commerce. With that in mind, she had the intention to rent a cheap tiny shop front. The customer flow was not important as the focus was having her own exhibition hall and priority on the sales online. Jennie had always been interested in fashion design. She did not pursue further studies after graduation but had not stopped with extracurricular learning. She might not compare to many great fashion designers, but she was capable of tailoring many clothes. Jennie always had the dream of building her own brand and told Vickie about this before. Now that she had the opportunity, she hoped to give it a go. First, she was going to design a few clothes following the current trend and put them online for sale. Jennie would put on display some ready-made clothes in the shop so that customers could try them out offline or come take a look, just like in those fashion design studios with sample clothes for fitting. From then on, she could build the brand step by step. Vickie was not proficient in this particular subject but Jennie seemed to have it all organized by the sound of things. She turned over and noticed the sparkling brilliance in the young woman’s eyes as she depicted her dream. It was a shimmer of endless hope and spirit that drew even Vickie in. Vickie thought that it was great Jennie had it going for her. Who said that it was not ideal for a person to live an ordinary and normal life? A person with dreams, something to do, a loved one, and someone who loved them back. Was this not what humans were after their whole life? Curling her lips, Vickie nodded and encouraged her. “I feel it’s a great idea from the way you’re telling me. I believe in you. You will achieve your dreams.” Jennie’s cheeks turned flushed red from the excitement. She nodded. “I will work hard towards it!” While the pair were exchanging smiles, a black vehicle stopped into a nearby shade of trees. The person inside the car fixed his gaze by the roadside and looked at the two girls in all smiles with gloomy eyes. He fished out his phone and snapped a picture of the two figures before sending it out. Then, he dialed a number and asked in a gruff voice, “Is it her?” A raspy and husky voice was heard coming from the other end of her line. “It’s her.” “Okay.” “You can be assured that the money will be deposited into your family’s account after it is done.” The man remained silent for a while before heaving a reply. “Sure.” He then hung up. Tightening his grip on the steering wheel, he watched the figures in a distance with a ruthless smile on his face. He then stepped on the gas and accelerated the car towards the direction of the two girls. On the other side, Vickie and Jennie were having a pleasant talk. Sensing a sudden chill down her spine, Vickie’s intuition, honed through years of dwelling between the fine line of life and death, sent her internal alarm bells ringing. She felt as though her hair over her body rose all at once. Without time to say more, she shouted, “Be careful!” The next second, she lunged onto Jennie and pushed her to the ground. As the duo tumbled on the floor, they heard a screeching sound piercing their eardrums. Soon, the car turned around and sounded the engine before coming in pursuit of them. Jennie was still out of it. Her body was aching from the fall after being pushed down by Vickie and her head was buzzing. She felt a tug on her wrist. Someone pulled her over and dragged her aside. The car tire brushed past one side of her body and was a centimeter away from crushing her. Jennie broke out in cold sweat. As she snapped out of the trance, she lifted her chin and gazed ahead, looking as white as a sheet. The black Volkswagen made a U-turn and came barreling toward them again. “Sister!” “Get out of the way!” With the car traveling at the speed of light, Vickie only managed to shove the dumbstruck Jennie away while she had no time to dodge. Wham! Vickie was hurled far away. “Sister!” Jennie let out a shrill cry. Having been flung to a side, her arms and legs were bleeding from scraping against the tough gravel but without the time to attend to it, she stumbled her way towards Vickie. Not far off, Vickie spewed a mouthful of blood. She opened her eyes to see the car coming at her. The driver’s target was her. It was clear that the person was not going to stop until she was dead. Her eyes turned cold, and she was in so much pain, threatening to fall apart from the earlier collision. Vickie knew that if it were not for her proficiency in the art of self-defense, she would not have managed to shift to the edge during the collision, leaving the car to only graze one side of her body. Otherwise, she might be pulverized to a pulp underneath those tires.
