Chapter 448

Zachary’s mother brought it up twice that I looked very similar to that woman. When she turned her face fully to face me, I felt as though I was looking at a future version of myself. In a few more decades, I should look exactly like this woman. I approached and sat across her. Wallace smartly took his leave and said, “Mom, I’ve brought her to you as promised! You guys have a chat first. I’ll go back to my room to get changed before coming over to accompany you.” After Wallace took his leave, I was left with only Leo and the other bodyguards by my side. She passed me a cup of coffee and said, “You can dismiss them.” I nodded at Leo and he stood 10 meters away from me. After they put some distance between us, the noble lady finally said in a calm tone, “This is my first time seeing you since our parting.” So she did not see me back when she donated her kidney to me? I pursed my lips and remained quiet. She cleared her through and continued, “I did miss you and wanted to bring you under my own care. However, once I thought of your father…He lied to me and ruined my love. I hate him, and naturally could not bear to have you by my side. I’m sorry.” She was perfectly calm when speaking of her hatred for my father. It was the same when she talked about missing me. It was devoid of any hint of emotion. I spoke up, “It doesn’t matter.” “Carol, you’re very calm after meeting me.” I took a look at the coffee and said, “So are you.” Hearing that, she chuckled and said, “You’re very much like me.” I kept quiet. She continued, “I had Wallace bring you to me because I wanted to hand over the businesses in Wu City to you, including those in France.” I laughed and asked, “So generous?” She said, “You’re my only daughter.” “I recall Wallace calling you mom.” Seeing that I suddenly brought Wallace up, her features softened and explained, “Wally was weak from his birth, therefore I took him under my care. Him calling me mom is just because he’s closer to me.” “Since that’s the case, you can pass your assets to him.” I got up and attempted to leave. She called out to me in panic, “Carol.” I said calmly with my back to her, “I’ve never placed much importance in material wealth since the beginning. I was even unwilling to inherit the Schick family. It was forced upon me after he took away my man.” She asked softly, “Is it not yours just because you don’t want it?” “What else is left between us apart from being related by blood? Did you really take me as your daughter?” Other than being her heir in name, I was nothing in her eyes. She did not show the slightest hint of joy upon seeing me. She seemed to be dumbstruck by the question. I turned around to see her expression turned dark. I then suppressed the frustration in my heart and said, “I should go.” She called out gently, “Carol.” I remained silent. She then said honestly, “You’re my daughter. However, I don’t know what ties we have between us other than that.” I was speechless. I departed from the huge castle with Leo in tow. On the helicopter, Leo asked me, “Master, you seem rather unhappy.” “Leo, my birth did not bring her any happiness.” Leo asked hesitantly, “You’re talking about the duchess?” For a mother like that, I might as well not have it. I did not know how to answer Leo’s question and did not want to show signs of weakness before him. When we were close to the French borders, I sent Zachary a message, “I’ll be in Espoo in a few more hours.” Zachary did not reply to my message. I then sent a message to Martti and Joshua, but was ignored by them as well.
