Chapter 447
Wallace looked around everywhere like a little kid. He was curious about almost anything, including the black cargo pants that Leo wore.
“Our designs are different. Yours have a belt here.”
I was speechless.
I sighed as I watched him tugging at Leo’s belt as Leo ignored him. Wallace then turned disinterested and stopped bugging him.
Instead, he asked me, “You’re such a coward even though you’re the master of the Schick family. Why did you let the Marcus family to push you around?”
I explained, “They’re just commoners. I don’t want to suppress them with my authority. Furthermore, they are Raine’s future in-laws. I wanted to give them respect. Additionally, even Lance did not bring his luxury car along for the pick up session in consideration of the doctor’s dignity. We kept things frugal and simple, yet all was ruined with your appearance! Now the Marcus family and the doctor’s colleagues know that Raine is rich. They’ll surely bring her trouble in the future. When the time comes, Raine will be the money tree because the money they need would be an insignificant sum for Raine. If she chooses to help one and not the other, it will surely bring up many gossips.”
Wallace sat next to me and said, “You’ve analyzed their personality quite thoroughly. You’re right. Those people would come looking for the bride when they need money. The bride will surely help out as they are the bridegroom’s relatives or friends. They will realize that the bride is very agreeable and will grow more brazen as time passes! However, you left someone out, the bridegroom. Will he let his relatives and friends bully the wife? According to my investigations, some of the doctor’s colleagues had records of bullying the bride.”
“I don’t know about those matters,” I said.
Given Loraine’s personality, she will surely solve the problem by herself. After all, she once managed to save me from a gang all by herself.
“Nevermind, let’s drop this topic.”
Wallace lost his interest and laid his head on my arm. I wanted to push him away, but he beat me to it and said, “It’s been three days since I’ve slept. Let me rest here for a few hours.”
I reminded him coldly, “It’s not good for different genders to be in close contact and I’m also attached. Moreover, we’re not that close yet.”
“Your mother is my mother, and vice versa. In other words, I’m your older brother. You can’t bring gender into this!”
I was speechless.
His words made sense.
Given my silence, Wallace hugged my arm and muttered, “Caroline, I’m really your older brother. You need to treat me better.”
I was at a loss for words.
In the end, I did not push him away as I could not bring myself to do it. Perhaps it was out of sympathy, or perhaps from him calling my mother as his own. My heart relented.
By the time we arrived in France, around five hours passed. Accounting for the difference in time zones, it was noon in France where the sun was shining brightly.
The weather was slightly warm where it was too warm for a down jacket, but too cold without it. Wallace took me to the nearby mall to buy clothes.
His preference steered toward the traditional French dress. I rejected all of them and ended up picking out a set of clothes that was more popular, a checkered shirt with a matching skirt.
Wallace looked at me pointedly, “So ugly.”
Anything against his wish was ugly.
I was too lazy to deal with him and had him lead me to the castle. When the car was parked at the castle gates, a sliver of fear started creeping into my heart.
Wallace instructed me to leave my bodyguard at the door, to which I rejected. I said, “No. They’re my bodyguards here to offer me personal protection.”
“You won’t be facing any dangers when meeting your mother,” he said.
I stood firm and replied, “This is my principle.”
It was just bullsh*t.
I was just unwilling to meet her alone.
Wallace frowned and said, “Whatever.”
He led me into the castle. I was met with a large field with a gazebo in the middle of it. It was adorned with a European glass table and a woman wearing a royal gown was seated in front of it.
At that moment, her back was facing me. However, just a look from the back was sufficient to show her nobility. It was far more intimidating than Zachary’s mother.
Wallace called out with a smile, “Mom.”
Hearing that voice, she turned her face slightly over. When I saw half of her face, I was stunned, muttering to myself, “So similar.”
