Chapter 442

Yara and I went to the night market near the hotel. She was hungry and wanted to eat some kebabs from the roadside stalls. I took a seat and saw her pick out a lot of sticks. I asked her skeptically, “Can the two of us finish this?” With her back to me, she replied, “You can call Sis Summer over to join us. She’s quite the drinker, and she’ll keep going even after we’re all piss drunk.” “I remember someone went down quickly after just one shot,” I retorted. “You’re looking down on me,” Yara complained. I laughed it off, then took out my phone to send Summer a message. She replied quickly. [Summer: Sorry, Charles came to visit me.] I was speechless. Charles was unexpectedly clingy. Summer had just arrived in Nanjing, and he had already caught up to her. Suddenly, I thought of Zachary. We had been apart for some time. My lovesickness was unbearable during our time apart. I held onto the phone and sent him a goodnight wish. He did not reply to my message. Following that, I sent another one. [Caroline: Second Brother, are you asleep?] [Zachary: Hm?] He replied immediately. It was his way of asking me if something was amiss. He was the type of person that did not know how to exchange basic greetings. I ignored him. Then, Yara ordered her food and sat next to me. I looked at the beer in her hand. “Don’t get drunk,” I encouraged. I won’t be able to carry you back to the hotel later. I’ll have to ask Lance to help bring you back to the hotel. At that point, I don’t know what might happen.” Yara replied without a care. “Lance is a typical gentleman. If anything were to happen, it would’ve happened a long time ago! He’s a conservative person. Unless it were his newlywed wife, he probably wouldn’t even cross that boundary with anyone else. What do you expect him to do?” I read between the lines and asked eagerly, “Does that mean that you’re hoping for something to happen?” Yara rolled her eyes at me. “Did I say that?” I replied sincerely, “That’s what you’re implying.” “Caroline, you old pervert.” I was flabbergasted. How was I old? I felt hurt all of a sudden. Seeing my gloomy mood, Yara comforted me, “It’s just a metaphor. You’re still young.” “You little rascal. You hurt my feelings.” Her phone on the table lit up suddenly, and I saw a message from Clingy Guy. [Clingy Guy: Yara, I’ll see you later.] Clingy Guy… After a sudden realization, I asked, “Lance?” “He’s been clingy for a while. Did he really think that all the times we met were purely coincidental? I’m not a three year old, alright?” “Then why are you playing these games with him?” I seemed to have hit the nail on the head as Yara started blinking. In the end, she was not drunk but had a rather clumsy gait. I supported her back to her room and went to look for Loraine. I knocked on the door. She opened up and immediately started, “Sis Caroline, I’ve explained everything to the doctor. He already knows the truth, and we’re clear from any misunderstandings.” I asked skeptically, “What’s the truth?” She bit her lipstick-covered lips and explained softly, “He touched me, but he was drunk that night. I never had the time to give him a proper explanation. I was planning to tell him tomorrow.” So, Loraine was planning to give the doctor a surprise. Meanwhile, I ruined the surprise for her. I said apologetically, “Raine, I’m sorry.” “I understand that you were only thinking about my happiness.” She suddenly hugged me tightly in her arms and cried out emotionally, “I never thought that I would be the first of us to get married. I was so sure that it would be Lance, but now… Sis Caroline, I’ve met the doctor. I’m willing to spend the rest of my life with him.”
