Chapter 443
I got up very early in the morning. Loraine’s mother had also come to visit and was slightly caught off guard when she saw me.
“Carol,” she greeted.
“Aunty,” I replied.
She nodded her head gently. “Thank you.”
I smiled. By then, Loraine had already changed into her wedding gown.
There were many people in the room. Someone managed to identify me and asked while pointing at me, “Are you that Caroline Shaw that was trending on the internet? How can a divorcee like you be Raine’s bridesmaid?”
Right, how could a divorcee like me be a bridesmaid?
I had never considered that question. It was not like Loraine did not know about it.
However, she still invited me regardless. That was why I agreed to it. I did not expect someone to point it out so publicly in my face!
Since it was Loraine’s wedding, I chose to remain silent and was unbothered to cause a scene with her. However, Loraine stood up for me instead. She put down the lipstick in her hand and said coldly, “Sis Caroline is a divorcee, but she’s currently single. Why can’t she be my bridesmaid?”
That girl replied stubbornly, “It’s bad luck.”
Loraine then shot back, “It’s only bad luck if I say so.”
“Don’t think that you can push around the Marcus family just because you have the privilege of a big family. I’ll be telling my aunt so, see what you’re gonna do about it!”
It turns out that she was a relative from the doctor’s side.
She left the room, and I comforted Loraine.
“She’s right. As a divorcee, it’s not appropriate for me to be your bridesmaid.”
I was afraid the Marcus family would make things difficult for her.
Loraine was stubborn. “I want you to be my bridesmaid. I’ll deal with whoever dares to spew nonsense today!”
I was speechless.
It was almost noon when the doctor came by to pick up his bride. The doctor’s groomsmen were fellow doctors and old friends. Everyone got along well and even asked for the bridesmaids to be introduced to them. However, the doctor knew that Summer and I were both taken, so he quickly put an end to those thoughts.
At the wedding venue, a few of the Marcus family’s relatives asked to replace the bridesmaid. They claimed that it was bad luck.
The doctor naturally did not comply with them and explained gently. Later on, noticing that his words were not getting through to them, his expression seemed to carry a hint of anger. Meanwhile, Loraine had already taken off the veil from her head and stared coldly at the Marcus family.
I knew that I had ultimately made things difficult for Loraine.
I tugged at her arm and calmly advised her, “They’re your doctor’s family. It’s understandable for them to think this way. I’ll just not be your bridesmaid, but I’ll still stay by your side up until the end of the wedding before I leave.”
Loraine said with reddened eyes, “Sis Caroline.”
I know that she felt bad for me.
I chuckled. “Raine, this is the person you want to marry. Don’t ruin it just because of me. Just get married first.”
Hearing that, Loraine threw down the bouquet of flowers in her hands and told the relatives straight in their face, “If Sis Caroline is not going to be my bridesmaid, then I’m not getting married today!”
The doctor’s body trembled, and his expression turned dark.
He asked the Marcus family members, “Are you happy now?”
“Jayden, you can’t let them have their way just because they’re from a bigger family. You must let them know that the Marcus family are no pushovers.”
A chilling voice suddenly cut through the crowd, “This was originally a wedding that both parties agreed on. However, just because of you guys, it turned out this way! You’re right. Raine indeed has a big family behind her, but she would never cause a scene because of that. If she wants Miss Shaw to be her bridesmaid, that’s because Miss Shaw is an important person in her life. This is her wedding. What’s wrong with her choosing someone to accompany her out of the six bridesmaids? I’ll tell you my opinion right now. I’m siding with Raine. There are still twenty minutes until the wedding starts. It’s up to you guys to decide what to do.”
The one who spoke up for me was Lance. He would always take my side during the most crucial moment.
The crowd from the Marcus family had ugly expressions on their faces. The doctor’s parents and grandfather had actually agreed to me being a bridesmaid. However, the Marcus family was large and had many people. There were quite a number of dissenting opinions!
They were the seniors that were envious of the doctor’s family having things their way. In fact, the doctor could not care less about them, but they were good at stirring up trouble.
They were his seniors after all, and it was not nice to have a falling out with them.
Right then, a group of cars arrived at the wedding venue. They were all the newest models of Rolls Royces and Porches with fancy colors. None of them were white or black.
The crowd from the Marcus family were all stunned.
“Whose cars are these?”
Someone got out of the first car. I wanted to hide away the moment I saw who it was. He took off his sunglasses and called out to me, “Miss Shaw.”
