Chapter 11

Meryl kept those thoughts to herself. What she said was enough to leave Nigel stunned. It wasn't until they pulled into the apartment parking lot that he came to his senses. Hesitant, he asked, "When did that happen?" Meryl left him hanging. "Take a guess." Nigel felt the same old feeling creeping back in. Speechless, he climbed out of the car. Meryl stepped out right after him, walking alongside him. The Goldwyns and Sheffields lived close by, so they shared the same way home. The elevator ride was silent. Nigel hung his head, clearly shy, while Meryl leaned casually against the wall, watching his ears turn red. The elevator doors slid open with a chime. After Meryl walked Nigel to his door, he stopped her from coming any closer. She understood he'd feel shy too, even though he was a guy. With a faint smile, she ruffled his hair and wisely backed away before he could get angry. As Meryl was leaving, she said, "I'll bring my parents over in a few days to talk about the wedding.
