The Chris Family. Upon Dane's mother's release from prison, all the aunts and relatives organized a welcome party. The plan was to usher her into a new chapter of life. One of the relatives eyed Madeleine up and down. "Ah, I never imagined our Chris family's girl could be this beautiful. No boyfriend yet?" Madeleine, socially anxious and uncomfortable around strangers, did not respond to the explicit gaze. She edged away, remaining silent. “What is this?” Dane frowned, shielding Madeleine. The woman known as the Third Aunt replied, smiling. "I am finding a good match for Madeleine. She's beautiful, but she's had a child before marriage. That's frowned upon in our village. However, your mother asked me, so I promised to find someone decent for her." Dane's frown deepened, and he glanced towards Georgia who sat at the head table.
