Chapter 11
Years later, I still found myself recalling the afternoon I first met Isaac.
I was fresh out of Wartford University, brimming with ambition to conquer the world and fulfill my dreams. However, my dad had exiled me to one of the company's smallest subsidiaries.
I could still remember my dad's advice. "You have to start from the ground up to understand people thoroughly."
And so, I became the project manager, and Isaac was my supervisor. He wore shirts so faded that they had lost their color, the cuffs frayed and thin. Yet, on nights when we worked late, he would somehow make a hot cup of milk magically appear in front of me.
His eyes were tender as he said warmly, "Eliza, it isn't easy for a woman to make it on her own."
It was pouring that night, and only two of us from the project team remained. Isaac slipped off his jacket and draped it over my shoulders, standing in the chill of the air-conditioning in nothing but his thin shirt.
