Chapter 165 Where Am I?
Maya’s POV
I wake up slowly, my senses hazy, the darkness pressing against my skin like a suffocating blanket. My head aches fiercely, a dull throb pulsating behind my eyes. Every breath I take is shallow, shallow enough that I feel like I might drown in the stale air of this cold, damp cell.
The last thing I remember is the chaos—the shouting, the running, the feeling of being ripped away from everything familiar. But now? Now, it’s just silence. Heavy, oppressive silence, broken only by the faint drip of water somewhere in the distance. The sound echoes in my ears, rhythmic and relentless, like a heartbeat I can’t escape.
I try to move, but my limbs feel numb—like they’re weighed down by lead. I flex my fingers, slowly at first, then more deliberately, trying to gauge if I have any control. My body responds sluggishly, every muscle protesting, protesting as if it’s been through a war I don’t remember signing up for.
My eyelids flutter open again, and I squint through the dark
