Chapter 15 It’s Quite Good

Jared Crawford was still indifferent as though he was an emotionless robot. “Yes, get the butler to arrange it. Let’s have it in one week’s time.” Janice was overwhelmed by immense joy. She had waited for many years, and he finally agreed to marry her! She could not describe how elated she was at that moment, so she cried tears of joy while she held Jared’s hands. “Thank you, Jared, thank you for willing to take me as your wife. I’ve been waiting for this day for a very, very long time…” Nonetheless, Jared still stared with hollow eyes at the ceiling. Nobody knew what he was thinking. …… The news of Jared marrying Janice was soon spread to Grandpa Crawford. The old man was so furious that he pounded his walking stick on the ground. “B*stard! B*stard! Gwen had just passed away, her funeral hasn’t been held, and it hasn’t even been seven days. How could he marry another woman? Is he crazy?!” In order to prevent the Crawford family from losing another backbone, the butler quickly soothed him. “Besides, I haven’t agreed with the marriage. How could he do as he pleases? He’s bold enough to have a mind of his own now, isn’t he!” The butler hesitated for a while before he expressed, “Master, perhaps he decided to marry Miss Sanders because he can’t forget Mrs. Crawford.” Grandpa Crawford looked at him in confusion. The butler sighed and explained, “Mr. Crawford hugged the wooden figures, which were carved by Mrs. Crawford, to sleep last night. When he woke up, he even went to the storeroom to look for the other sculptures that were carved by her in the past. Mr. Crawford cried and laughed when he looked at them…” “What happened to him?” Grandpa Crawford was startled because he had never seen his son like that. “Ah, Mr. Crawford only realized after Mrs. Crawford left that she was the person whom he truly loved. That said, he dares not face the truth because it hurts him more, so he rather he never realizes. “As such, Mr. Crawford decided to marry Janice Sanders to make himself forget the fact that he actually loves Gwen. “In other words, he’s only marrying Janice to escape from reality — him loving Gwen, who was already gone.” Grandpa Crawford understood it right away. “You’re saying that he’s marrying Janice to go back to the start — when he hasn’t realized that he loves Gwen?” The butler answered, “Yes.” Grandpa Crawford fell butt first to his seat and mumbled, “What’s going on…” …… The wedding was already scheduled. Janice was so cheerful every day that she personally arranged every detail of the wedding. She oversaw everything from the venue to the utensils used, hence it was clear to everyone that she looked forward to it very much. On the contrary, the other main character of the wedding was much more relaxed, or perhaps, he was completely unperturbed. Jared went to work and got off work as usual. He ate and entertained guests normally, but the only difference was he became very detached. Janice purposely ran to the study when she received her wedding dress’ design drawing because she wanted to see it with Jared. “Jared, what do you think about this wedding dress?” “It’s quite good,” Jared replied to her plainly while looking at his documents. “What about this?” Janice showed him another drawing. “It’s quite good.” Janice pictured her dress in her head as she asked, “Should we wear Chinese wedding outfits or Western wedding outfits? I like white dresses, but I feel like Chinese weddings are more ceremonious. I feel so troubled, which one do you think we should go with?” Jared gave the same answer from the start till the end, “It’s quite good.” Janice was furious. “Jared! Are you even listening to me?” “It’s quite good.” “Jared!” “It’s quite good,” Jared repeated again, then stood up and left somewhere. The butler entered the study with a cup of coffee, and he said to Janice after watching Jared leave, “Miss Sanders, you can make your own decision for small matters as such. Mr. Crawford has been in a bad mood lately, so it’s best that you don’t give him trouble.” Janice happened to be enraged and had nowhere to vent her anger, so she rebuked, “Old fart, watch how you’re talking. I’m telling you, I’ll be the lady of this villa in the future, and believe it or not, I’ll fire you.”
