Chapter 1126 Do Not Ask Anything

There was nothing left for Mr. Noah to say since Quentin had decided. After all, Mr. Noah was an outsider in their affairs. He trusted that Quentin would be able to manage it. Quentin watched until Iris went up before he told Mr. Noah to drive off. Iris arrived home barefooted, looking like she had lost her soul. She had taken off her shoes before getting into the car earlier, thus she did not even take her shoes with her and walked barefooted till she reached her door and used her fingerprint to unlock the door. She had just stepped into the house and closed the door only to be met face to face with Helen Lovain who was standing not too far away. Helen had her arms crossed in front of her chest looking at Iris with a curious look. “You’re finally home? In such a beautiful dress? Is the person who sent you home…” “Don’t ask anything, don’t say anything! Nothing is going on!!” Iris interrupted Helen agitatedly before she could say anything further. Helen then noticed how pale her daughter looked and the redness that was in Iris’s eyes. She was stunned for a moment before she hurried over. “What’s the matter?” Helen remembered seeing Iris leaving the house happily in the afternoon, so why does she look like that now? Helen was unsure what happened to Iris except for the reddened eyes. She was utterly anxious and kept asking, “Did anything happen? Who did you go out with? Did the person who sent you home bully you?” Iris could have kept her emotions in check, returned to her room emotionlessly, took a shower, and laid in bed on autopilot mode if Helen had not asked. However, the last string in her broke the moment she received the concern shown by her family. Her lips parted as if to say something to Helen but before she could utter any words, her tears fell first and could not be stopped. Helen wiped away Iris’s tears in a fluster. “Don’t cry. Tell me what happened.” “Waaaaa…” Iris wanted to say something but she could not find any words to say. She allowed herself to lean inside Helen’s embrace as Helen opened her arms wide to accept Iris. Helen’s shoulders swiftly turned wet. She wanted to ask but she looked at Iris’s current state and felt that Iris probably would not even be able to form a complete sentence right now. She gave up that idea and gently patted Iris’s shoulders. “Shh, Rissie, Shh. It’s okay. We won’t talk about it. Don’t cry, shh…” Mr. Zephyr was inside the bedroom about to go to bed when he heard the commotion outside and came out. He wanted to come over to check on Iris upon seeing how badly she was crying. However, Helen made a hand signal for him to stop where he was before she signaled him to return to the room and stay inside. Mr. Zephyr did not want to comply but he had no choice but to return to his room. Helen led Iris to her room after she had cried for a long time and no longer had any strength to bathe, so she just laid in bed with the white dinner dress. “Are you exhausted? Do you want to sleep first? You can bathe after you’ve slept a little.” Iris nodded her head. Her eyes were swollen from crying and she lay there looking rather pitiful. Helen felt inexplicably heartbroken to see her daughter like that. She took a damp face towel to wipe Iris’s face before she swept Iris’s forehead and gently said, “Have a good sleep. I’d be here watching over you.” Iris closed her eyes but her hands clutched Helen’s hand tightly. She must have been exhausted from crying so much that she fell asleep quickly. Mr. Zephyr heard nothing outside and quietly crept out of the room. He sneaked over to Iris’s room to take a peek. Helen heard some sounds coming from outside and glared at Mr. Zephyr before gritting her teeth as she mouthed at him to get lost. Mr. Zephyr stepped inside Iris’s room and silently mouthed the words, “What happened?” Helen glared viciously at him and whispered, “Why are you inside here? Didn’t I ask you to go and sleep? Why are you so nosy?” Mr. Zephyr, “...” “What nosy? Iris is my daughter too, can’t I show my concern?” Helen spoke, “It’s so late now, can’t you see that she’s asleep? What concern do you want to show?” Mr. Zephyr was being reprimanded and he decided not to argue with his wife. He looked over at Iris. Helen had pulled the blanket over her and only her face was exposed outside. Mr. Zephyr could see the redness around Iris’s eyes. “What happened? Why did she cry? Did anyone bully her?” Helen thought about it and was sure that Iris was fast asleep before she carefully and slowly pulled her hand out of Iris’s own. She left the room and signaled for Mr. Zephyr to come out as well. Both of them crept out of the room, closed the door, and went to sit in the living room. “What happened? You’re making me so anxious. Can’t a father know why his daughter was crying?” Helen looked up and glanced at him with disgust when she heard that. “What are you anxious for? Will I keep it from you if I knew anything? Rissie came back looking distraught. I just asked her a few questions and she burst into tears. Oh, do you expect me to continue bombarding her with questions like ‘what happened?’ or ‘quickly tell me’ while she was crying?” Mr. Zephyr spoke, “... I didn’t mean that. I just thought that you might know something, that's why I keep asking you.” “I don’t know what happened to her either. She’s just upset tonight. I guess that it’s got something to do with relationships.” Mr. Zephyr immediately became deflated when he heard that it had something to do with relationships. “My daughter has grown up.” Helen said, “Let her have a good rest tonight. She’s tired from all that crying. Let’s talk tomorrow.” “Okay, we’ll ask her tomorrow.” “I’ll make this clear now. You’re not allowed to force her if she doesn’t want to talk about it.” Mr. Zephyr said, “What kind of person do you think I am? Am I the kind of person who would force her? Sheesh!” He stormed back to his room in anger while Helen sat in the living room and sighed. She did not tell Mr. Zephyr about the car she saw downstairs. She was not familiar with cars but Mr. Zephyr was a car enthusiast. He would frequently share some knowledge about cars with Helen, and that was how Helen could tell that Iris came back in a luxury car. They were just a regular family who had no connections with the affluent unless Iris knew that person. However, Iris came back looking dejected and sorrowful. ‘Looks like it’s not something good…’ … “Are you even qualified to stand beside me? Don’t you understand when I’ve already rejected you so many times? Or perhaps you’re so stupid that you can’t even understand the human language?” “Look at that girl. She’s such a huge joke. The man has already rejected her so many times but she continued to throw herself at him. Does she not know what shame is?” “I think she’s just purely shameless. The man already said that he didn’t like her but she keeps on pestering him. Even a follower is not as annoying as her.” “She’s just a gold digger! So cheap that she looks like a wh*re! If I were her, I would rather die after being so shameful!” Iris opened her eyes and jolted awake from her nightmare.
