Chapter 1117 Specifically Here To Wait For You
“It’s fine, thank you.” Iris awkwardly rejected the makeup artist’s offer and lowered her head to cease all communication with the makeup artist because she was being shy about it.
“You’re so easily embarrassed. It’s just a question about this matter and you’re already so shy. How are you going to pursue President Hall like that?”
“...” Iris heard it and looked up into Jovene’s eyes. “Actually… I was never shy before this when I went after him. No, I was shy, but…”
Perhaps it was her ignorance that gave her the guts. She felt that she could give her all until the repeated rejections gradually hacked away her confidence little by little until she lost all hope.
Being shy was a normal reaction but because of the guts she had back then, she just did whatever her heart wanted to do.
Unlike now, her primary feelings were worry and fear. What her heart wanted now was the last thing on her mind.
“But what?”
“Nothing.” Iris shook her head and her mood had fallen tremendously. Jovene noticed her depressed look and patted her shoulders. “It’s fine. The past in the past. The present is the present. The future is full of hope and plenty of opportunities awaits you.”
The power of that encouragement was strong. Iris kept repeating in her heart like a mantra what Jovene said to her and finally smiled in agreement.
“Yes!”
Iris regained her enthusiasm and vigor at that moment. “That’s the way. You must maintain this positive energy when you attend the dinner party later.”
“Thank you, Miss Jovene.”
Iris had good skin and the makeup artist completed the look easily and sighed,
“Miss, your skin is so good. I’ve been a makeup artist for so many years and it’s rare to find girls who have such good skin. It’s a breeze to do your makeup and I don’t need to apply thick layers of foundation.”
Iris smiled shyly in response to the makeup artist’s praises.
The makeup artist found Iris to be getting cuter and wanted to ruffle Iris’s hair but stopped at the thought that the hairdo had just been completed. The makeup artist would have to redo it if Iris’s hair got messy from the ruffle.
Nightfall had just begun by the time Jovene and Iris left the place. The city was not engulfed in darkness but was lit up with lights and brightened the night sky.
“Good. You have dressed well. If all goes well, you will be the most stunning woman at the party tonight.”
Iris was doing some deep breathing exercises due to her nervousness but nearly stopped inhaling when she heard what Jovene said.
“W-what? The most stunning?”
“Yes.” Jovene winked at Iris from the rearview mirror. “Don’t you think that you look extremely pretty tonight?”
“... It is pretty, but… I do know myself.”
Iris knew that she was not considered pretty so how could she be the most stunning woman? Besides, she did not want to be the most stunning woman at the party as she would feel extremely out of place if everyone kept their attention on her.
However, Iris relaxed when she remembered that she was not pretty enough to stun the whole party.
Unfortunately, Jovene was being cheeky. Iris had just relaxed when Jovene said, “Perhaps you’re wrong with your looks. You may not have beautiful facial features but trust me, the energy that comes from within you is very attractive. Also, you’ve underestimated President Hall’s power of attraction. He had remained single for so many years and came up with plenty of excuses to reject socialites who invited him. He had maintained the reputation of not bringing any female companion to the party all these years but if he suddenly appeared with one, those girls who had been rejected by him in the past would probably want to tear down whoever is with him.”
‘Tear down…’
A chill ran down Iris’s spine and she immediately sat up, staring at Jovene intently as her mind began to imagine the things that Jovene said earlier.
‘So the reason I’m going to stun the whole party is not because of my looks or the dress, but because… I will be standing next to Quentin as his female companion?
‘This reason is completely acceptable and it’s a 99.9 percent chance that I would surely be the star attraction of the party because Quentin is like a beacon in the dark and for me to be standing next to him…’
Iris suddenly regretted that she agreed to attend the dinner party as his female companion.
Back then, she did not know why her instinct was to run away instead of rejecting him.
“Are you scared already?” Jovene glanced at her and teased.
Iris said nothing.
“What are you scared of? Don’t you need to have the courage to stand beside him if you like him?”
Iris suddenly looked up when she heard that.
“How do you want to be his woman if you refuse to stand on par with him?”
“But…” Iris bit her lower lip in uncertainty. “I feel that I’m too mediocre and don’t really… deserve to be with him.”
“What is the definition of deserving someone? Family background? Looks? Or character? As far as I can see, none of it is. What I can see is that both of you have mutual feelings for each other and the bravery to overcome all obstacles. Society nowadays is cruel and we have to face reality, but to be honest, after being married for so many years, I still believed that true love did exist when I met my husband.”
“That’s so nice.” Iris sighed in admiration.
“You will have that day too. Believe in yourself.”
Jovene was indeed a caring person.
At the dinner venue, Jovene led Iris out of the car. Iris was having difficulty walking as she was wearing high heels. She remembered the last time she followed Quentin around to meet potential clients and had worn high heels that didn’t fit her well, her feet were in so much pain for days from the blisters.
However, back then, her heart bled more.
“Um… Miss Jovene…” Iris hesitantly followed beside Jovene. “Is this the dinner party venue?”
“Yes.”
‘But why do I not see Quentin anywhere? Has he gone inside himself? Did he not wait for me?’
Iris was feeling a little disappointed at those thoughts.
“Feeling disappointed?” Jovene’s voice rang beside her.
Iris resumed her previous expression and shook her head. “No.”
As if nothing happened.
She was feeling a little disappointed but at the same time still glad. After all, it was a beautiful first step for Quentin to have invited her as his female companion.
She just needed to work harder in the future.
“Take a look at the entrance.”
‘Entrance?’
Iris looked at her surroundings and saw a crowd ahead. There was a red carpet on the ground and many people were walking through it. The attendees needed an invitation card to prove that they were invited before they could enter.
At that moment, she noticed a tall and handsome figure at the entrance standing out from the crowd.
‘Quentin!’
Iris felt her chest being thumped. Her pink lips parted and she nearly screamed his name out loud in public.
She quickly realized that there were many people around and managed to stop herself before it was too late.
“Are you still feeling disappointed now? President Hall is specifically here to wait for you.”
