Chapter 89 It's Me
Inside the warehouse, Madeline pulled her thin suit tighter around herself.
In trying to find humor in the situation, she thought that at least she had a jacket on. It was better than nothing.
But the damp, icy air still seeped in, pricking her skin like countless tiny needles until goosebumps rose along her arms.
She couldn't sit still anymore. So, she got up and walked around the warehouse, hoping to find something that might keep her warm.
The shelves were stacked with nothing but crates of raw materials and ledgers. In one corner, however, sat a dust-covered cardboard box.
When she opened it, there was only a blanket inside, slightly damp to the touch.
Madeline sighed, but there was no better option. She wrapped the blanket around herself and returned to the chair.
The emergency lights cast a dim, yellow glow. Beyond the windows, rain formed a vast white curtain, and the wind howled endlessly through the mountains.
