Chapter 16 Visiting the Harringtons
Madeline didn't even flinch. She just shifted her footing ever so slightly, stepping back nonchalantly.
Margaret's vicious slap completely missed the mark, and her momentum made her lurch violently forward. Her ankle twisted, and she almost tumbled clumsily to the ground.
"Madeline, you did that on purpose!" Margaret shrieked hysterically, no longer caring about how she looked.
Madeline looked down at her condescendingly, as if she were looking at an idiot.
At this point, passersby had begun to notice the commotion and came over to watch. Seeing this, Jonathan helped Margaret up, feeling utterly embarrassed.
"That's enough. Don't make a scene here," he said.
Margaret—feeling wronged—tried to glare at Madeline, but Jonathan dragged her off.
"Madeline, you ungrateful wretch! You'll get your retribution! Stop pulling me..."
