"Why can't I say it? Is it because you can't handle the truth?"
Quinley scoffed. "A man who talks about love all the time, but lets his wife get slapped around in public by a group of people? What a joke.
"This is all for Luna, isn't it? You're just trying to get revenge for her. She's a murderer who deserves to die, and you? You're no better. Scumbags like you belong in the same pit."
Quinley's words cut deep, each one cold and sharp like a blade, piercing straight into Gary's chest.
She looked away and didn't spare him another glance. "Gary, if you still have any dignity left, don't show up in front of me again."
The passenger-side window rolled up slowly, and the car pulled away.
Gary's knees buckled. He sank to the ground, face buried in his hands, a muffled sob slipping through his fingers. Just like that, he became nothing more than a shrinking dot in the rearview mirror, fading until he disappeared.
