Chapter 104
Sierra was one of the people who regarded Herbal Emporium as a thorn in her flesh.
Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows in her office, she turned around and asked, "Uncle Toby, haven't you come up with an idea? I cannot wait anymore. If this continues, the Herbal Emporium will skyrocket to fame.
"People are claiming that a genius doctor from Herbal Emporium has cured both Dr. Leichter and a patient that the Century Group failed to save!"
Toby's mind wandered back to a few days ago when he went to his knees in front of an impassive Atlas. His fury threatened to overflow like lava.
"Cece, he 'cured' Dr. Leichter because the old man wasn't sick to begin with. A legend like Mr. Leichter doesn't need external help. As for the patient we failed to treat, that was on you.
"How could it not occur to you that Atlas might know a little about medicine? The Codex was left behind by his mom after all. How could he not master it?"
Not in the mood to argue, Sierra mumbled flatly, "Uncle Toby, this is not the time for this conversation."
Toby looked out of the window, his lips twitching. He revealed, "Don't fret. I have gathered enough manpower. If Herbal Emporium wishes to become the leading medical establishment in Newtropolis, we shall see if Atlas could handle my attack."
Then, he whispered something into Sierra's ear. Her face brightened when she heard his words.
If Herbal Emporium wanted a faceoff, the Century Group would make sure that Atlas dragged the entire medical profession in Newtropolis down with him!
On the same night, the Century Group released an announcement that it would invest 80 percent of its funds in researching modern medicine. It claimed that the traditional medicine practice couldn't save lives and that it was a hindrance to Chernea's progress.
Almost immediately, the traditional medicine practitioners protested angrily. They were soon greeted by another news that a modern medical team from abroad would make a special visit to Chernea.
However, they weren't here for a professional visit. Instead, they wanted a showdown to defeat the traditional medicine practice!
As the controversy around the development grew, the entire Chernea gradually learned about the fearful news of modern medicine practitioners' plan to wipe out traditional medicine.
The authorities immediately reached out to King Cedric of Western Chernea.
Blake personally recommended to the king, "Your Highness, Let's gather all the traditional medicine practitioners against this assault! The modern medicine practitioners might be formidable, but we cannot allow them to mess with us!"
King Cedric took a sip of tea and smiled. "Mr. Garett, do we even need to worry? Remember, we have King Atlas residing in Newtropolis. No one would dare to insult traditional medicine on his turf."
Worried, Blake replied, "I'm just worried that King Atlas wouldn't do anything about it."
King Cedric, however, looked relaxed and unfazed. "Mr. Garett, rest assured that the Blackwells have lived a reclusive life in the mountains and helped the people without ever asking for fame. The Blackwells are the only ones who have been defending traditional medicine for centuries."
Hearing that, Blake lamented regretfully, "Looks like I am overthinking this. I guess the modern medicine practitioners are only going to embarrass themselves on this trip!"
…
An hour ago, Tabitha informed Atlas that her cousin, Crystal Ward, would visit Newtropolis for their wedding. She said to him, "Please pick her up because I'll be busy this afternoon."
"Your cousin, you say?"
"Yes. She's the daughter of my maternal aunt who grew up in Chlo. She's rather pampered and difficult to get along with. She might make things difficult for you when you pick her up."
Atlas had nothing against picking up Crystal, but Tabitha worried for him.
After he was done with his work, he went to the train station.
Two youthful ladies were waiting outside the station under the hot summer sun. One of them looked enchanting in her pleated skirt, while the other looked sexy and playful in her hot pants and crop top.
"Crystal, why isn't your sister here yet?" Faith Leichter asked.
Crystal shrugged. "She told me she was busy today, and my brother-in-law will be picking us up instead. Did you know that he raped her during his and his ex-wife's wedding? He's a disgusting jerk! We need to teach him a lesson when we meet him for my sister's sake."
Faith put on a look of contempt. "I can't believe there are men like him."
Soon, Atlas arrived at the train station. Holding a photo, he compared the faces around him to the young lady in the photo. After he confirmed it was Crystal, he approached her.
"Hey, are you Crystal Ward?"
Crystal looked up at him with disdain. She said to Faith, "Faith, that's him—an infamous name in Newtropolis and a rapist who is running scott-free."
Atlas was speechless at Crystal's accusation. He finally understood Tabitha's worries.
After that, Crystal deliberately blinked at and elbowed Faith. Clearly, she wasn't contented with taunting him. She wanted her friend to join in.
Too bad Faith was unmoved. She examined Atlas with a quiet look of disbelief.
Then, she hung her head and mumbled softly to herself, "How could it be him?"
