Calvin's POV
I caught Evelyn's mocking smile over the children's heads, and something twisted in my gut. The frustration burned like acid, making my throat tight.
She really wasn't going to give me a chance to make amends, was she?
My company car had been following them the entire time.
As I approached, Beta Zeon quickly stepped out and opened the rear door with a hopeful look on his face.
"I thought the Alpha might have dinner at Ms. Blackwell's house tonight," he said carefully.
I gave him a cold look that made him stand up straight right away.
"Sorry, Alpha," he mumbled, dropping his head submissively.
Before climbing into the car, I turned back for one last look. Alexis was skipping between Rowan and Rhys, her little legs working double-time to keep up with her brothers. Evelyn followed behind them, her hair catching the late afternoon sunlight.
They looked like a perfect family portrait. A family I could have been part of if I hadn't been so damn blind.
