Natalie's clothes were soaked through as well. She lay curled up by Horatio's side, pressing close to him as she tried to warm him up with her equally cold body.
"You have to hold on, Horatio… Someone will come for us for sure…" she choked out the words, repeating them over and over into his ears. She didn't know if she was actually comforting Horatio or if she was trying to boost her own morale.
Natalie carefully inspected his wounds. His arm was severely swollen at the fracture site, and she dared not move it. Fortunately, the bleeding on his forehead had stopped.
She tore off a relatively clean strip from the hem of her undershirt and dipped it in river water. She then gently wiped the blood and dirt from Horatio's face.
Under the moonlight, his unconscious features were stripped of their usual cold sharpness, softening into an unusual, fragile stillness.
