Chapter 537
Cyrus explained, "The Sykes family is more cautious than we thought. They initially planned to deploy a venom puppet in Jorsproburgh to assist Jordan in their scheme against us, but it seems they bungled it.
"Now, they're trying to cover their tracks, but they're concerned that the Secret Realm's spies might uncover their plan. So, they've decided to establish a Medical Association to transfer a large number of people to Jorsproburgh, hoping to find an opportunity to eliminate any potential threats."
Chandler, a bit confused, asked, "With their power in Centuria, who could possibly pose a threat to them?"
Cyrus replied, "Their main concern is their reputation. If their scheme becomes known to everyone, they'll face universal condemnation. But I'd say they fear the young lord of the Hippocrates Sect the most."
"But the young lord of the Hippocrates Sect has never shown up," Chandler said.
Ordinary citizens of Jorsproburgh might not have heard of the Hippocrates Sect. However, among the influential elites of Centuria, almost everyone knew about them and hoped that the two Grand Doctors from the Hippocrates Sect could extend their lifespans to 200 years.
If the young lord of the Hippocrates Sect hadn't issued a Medical Directive last time, everyone would've thought he was dead.
Chandler was aware of the Hippocrates Sect's reputation and power. Even the leaders of the five major medical families in Summerland could only grovel before the young lord.
"As long as he's alive, he still has power," Cyrus said.
"If you can get evidence and have the young lord help you weed out the bad ones in the medical world, things might be much easier for you."
"Don't worry. The young lord of the Hippocrates Sect will show himself when the time is right."
Cyrus thought that he might need to use the identity of the young lord of the Hippocrates Sect to deal with the Sykes family more effectively.
When Mira came home from school that evening, Hazel and Chandler had already left.
Hearing that Hazel was leaving Jorsproburgh, Mira felt sad.
"Daddy, why didn't you let Hazel stay for dinner? I didn't get to say goodbye."
"Don't worry. We'll see them off the day after tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay, but I'm really going to miss her."
"It's okay. Maybe they'll be back soon."
After putting Mira to bed, Zoey joined Cyrus in the alchemy room to learn how to make anti-venom pills.
"Cyrus, did you ask Mr. Hudson who will be the new mayor of Jorsproburgh?"
"I did, but he doesn't know."
"I can't believe the Sykes family has so much influence. They can even shift the appointment of a mayor."
"After all, they're a medical family. With so many years of strategic marriages and treating countless patients, it's no surprise they wield such power."
"What if the new mayor makes things difficult for us?" Zoey asked.
"Then, he'll end up like Jason, blacklisted by the medical community. No one will treat him, not even for a simple stomachache." Cyrus laughed.
These were things he could control. He could cure or cause sickness at will.
Though officially, the military and government were said to be the foremost powers in Summerland, in reality, the medical world held far greater sway than many realized.
...
The next day, Cyrus was seeing patients when Margot, Benjamin, and Neil hurriedly rushed to his medical center. They bumped into each other in the doorway.
"Mr. Johnson, bad news! The Summerland Medical Association is setting up a branch in Jorsproburgh and starting to recruit members today," Benjamin reported.
Cyrus smiled and said, "Let them recruit. We control all the medical businesses in Jorsproburgh. Anyone who betrays us to join the Sykes family won't be able to make a living here anymore."
"They'll soon open pharmacies and hospitals here. And we'll be removed from the Medical Association. What if they take over?" Margot asked.
Cyrus, however, wasn't worried. Although the Sykes family was desperate and ready to take direct action, they wouldn't stand a chance against him.
"I also have another piece of news. Be prepared, Chandler is leaving Jorsproburgh," Cyrus announced.
"What? They're even making Mr. Hudson leave? It must be intentional!"
Margot was shocked and could sense that a secret plot against them was brewing.
