Chapter 530
Jessie closely watched Zoey's expression but couldn't detect any sign of lying. Instead, she couldn't help but be struck by how stunningly beautiful Zoey was, arousing a twinge of jealousy within her.
Even in Centuria, where she attended elite schools full of good-looking people, none of them had the same level of grace and charm as Zoey did.
Given Zoey's stunning looks, Jessie couldn't understand why Cyrus hadn't consummated their marriage. She wondered if he had a physical or psychological issue. Perhaps he might even prefer men.
If that were the case, she wouldn't mind Cyrus massaging her pubic bone.
"Has Cyrus ever mentioned the young lord of the Hippocrates Sect to you?" Jessie asked.
Zoey smiled and said, "Ms. Sykes, do you think I look approachable and naive, so you can probe me for information?"
Jessie felt embarrassed. She had indeed assumed Zoey was naive and simple-minded. Typically, the more beautiful a woman was, the more ignorant she tended to be.
"No, Ms. Clarke, that's not what I meant. I was just asking casually."
"Sorry, but I really don't know anything about the young lord of the Hippocrates Sect. Cyrus has never mentioned him to me," Zoey replied with a smile.
Zoey couldn't completely deny it because she didn't know what to say that would be most beneficial to Cyrus. She already knew about Cyrus' victory over Evelyn. He always kept her informed about his actions and whereabouts. This showed his respect for her as his wife.
Knowing Cyrus was safe gave Zoey a sense of security, and she felt more involved in his life.
"Who taught Cyrus his medical skills?" Jessie asked.
"Why don't you ask Cyrus yourself?" Zoey suggested with a smile.
Jessie wanted to ask more questions, but she felt like a fool. She realized she was asking too many questions and might be revealing her true intentions.
Zoey arranged for Jessie to stay in the largest ward, the same one Hazel had used. After all, Jessie had prepaid a hundred million for her treatment, which was the biggest payment Cyrus had received from any patient so far.
When Zoey finished these arrangements and prepared to pick up Mira, she found that Cyrus had already brought Mira back.
Cyrus got out of the car while holding Mira. He gently placed his arm around Zoey's waist, being careful not to touch her.
"I'll cook something nice for us tonight. The Sykes family issue is temporarily settled, so we can relax for a few days," Cyrus said with a smile.
"Daddy, I want buffalo wings and barbecue ribs," Mira requested.
"I don't know how to make barbecue ribs," Cyrus replied.
"Mommy can teach you. The barbecue ribs she makes are delicious," Mira said.
Zoey took Mira from Cyrus and said, "Honey, Ms. Sykes has been admitted. Maybe you should check on her?"
"There's no rush. I'll see her after dinner. Her condition isn't urgent," Cyrus replied.
"The Sykes family have suffered a loss, but they still sent their granddaughter to you for treatment. They're probably trying to figure out if you're linked with that young lord of the Hippocrates Sect," Zoey reminded him.
"Has Jessie been trying to pry information out of you?" Cyrus asked.
"Yes, but she's not very good at it," Zoey said.
Cyrus chuckled. "My wife is so smart."
"So, what should I say if she asks me again?"
"Just tell her that I have no connection to the Hippocrates Sect. They've been wiped out. The culprit is not to be trifled with, and it's best to keep our distance," Cyrus reminded her.
"Got it," Zoey said.
Zoey looked at Cyrus but said nothing. She remembered asking him where he had learned his medical skills. He had said he had been guided by a master over the years.
She wondered about the master who had taught Cyrus such impressive skills.
When Jessie mentioned it earlier, Zoey grew suspicious of the young lord of the Hippocrates Sect. But no matter what, if Cyrus instructed her to deny any connection, she would do just that.
Rachel was handling the kitchen chores while Zoey guided Cyrus with the cooking.
Jessie sneaked over and said, "It smells so good. I can smell the barbecue ribs."
Cyrus replied coldly, "The food here isn't for you. Go eat in the cafeteria."
"I gave you a hundred million."
"I don't care. I can have my wife refund you right now."
Just then, Margot, Bella, and Nicole came over for dinner after work. They weren't happy to see Jessie there.
"This is a private place. Why are you here?" Margot asked sharply.
Margot had a grudge against the Sykes family.
