Chapter 508

Jordan was so nervous that his phone slipped between the seats. He fumbled around for a while before finding it and calling Jason. "Jason, what the hell are you doing? Why are you dumping stocks like crazy? You drove the price down to the limit!" Jordan shouted while spitting in his rage. His face was red, and his veins were bulging. Jason feigned innocence. "Oops! Jordan, the investors are dumping your stocks. Your pharmacy business is in ruins. I can't prop up a valuation of hundreds of billions." "Jason, I'm warning you, don't play tricks with me! If you inject another five billion dollars into it, you can lift the stock price!" Jordan yelled. "I know that another five billion dollars might lift it, but as soon as I do that, the investors will sell the stocks and I'll lose even more," Jason replied. "I'll cover your losses. Do you want to hand over 20 billion dollars to Quinci for nothing? I'm the only one who can help you. I have connections with the Sykes family in Centuria." "Alright, I'll give it a try." Jason still had seven percent of the shares. With another five billion dollars, he'd have almost 15 percent of shares. After hanging up, Jordan was slightly relieved when he saw that the stock had finally bounded back. However, as Jason had said, there were too many retail investors and institutional funds dumping the stocks. Yet, he couldn't really blame the investors. Hayes Group Pharmaceutical accounted for a 60 percent share of their revenue. If they handled the stinky elixir pill scandal well and offered some compensation, they could calm the customers and continue their business. The stock price would naturally recover. But now, Cyrus had swooped in, leaving the Hayes family no chance to prove their medical skills. Even if they could haggle over compensation later, Jordan Pharmaceuticals had angered the public, and their reputation was utterly destroyed. In everybody's mind, Cyrus was a kind-hearted medical genius while the Hayes family was a deceitful and harmful disgrace to the medical industry. "Cyrus, you're killing me here. You're not even leaving me a chance to make amends! You bastard! Grandpa will kill me for this!" Jordan wailed in despair. Ferdinand added regretfully, "We never should've provoked him. He didn't even intend to target us. The Sykes family don't treat us as their own. We should've just focused on our business and enjoyed what we had." … At the Hayes residence, Jessie held her phone and read the endless stream of comments to Evelyn. She also reported the dismal state of Jordan Pharmaceuticals' stock price. Evelyn was so furious that she repeatedly slapped her wheelchair. "Cyrus, do you really want to force our family to take action?" The moment Jordan and Chris walked in, Evelyn lashed out at them. "Are you both idiots? Hurry up and ask Bella to apply for a trading halt this afternoon. We'll reopen once our family's funds are in place." The Sykes family's intervention required the agreement of the four main stakeholders and Owen's approval as mobilizing hundreds of billions wasn't easy. Jordan was calm despite being scolded. Vincent had put in immense effort to secure control of the Hayes family, and it couldn't be ruined just like that. "Alright, I'll tell Bella to halt trading after this morning's session." If he hadn't been confident about a turnaround today, they would've halted trading immediately to prevent a hostile takeover. But it was too late as Cyrus had caught the Sykes family completely off guard. "How many shares did Cyrus and his group acquire?" Chris asked. "About 24 or 25 percent of shares," Jordan replied. "That much?" Evelyn was shocked. "No worries, Ferdinand and I still hold 30 percent of the shares, and Jason has his shares too," Jordan said. Evelyn glanced at the stock price. It had been at its bottom limit but had since rebounded, now down only 15 percent of the price. Although there was heavy selling pressure, it was clear that significant funds were buying up the stocks. "How many shares has Jason bought?" Evelyn asked. "Probably no less than ten percent of shares by now," Jordan answered. "Idiot, how do you know he'll side with you? Looks like the Hayes family might get a new boss." Evelyn did not believe in Jordan at all now. She felt that he was such an idiot. Just as she finished speaking, Jordan received a call from Bella.
