The moment I stepped into the café, I knew Lexy was going to eat me alive.
There she was… seated near the wide glass window like a hawk poised to strike. Her arms were crossed, lips pressed into a thin line, and that sharp arched brow of hers rose ever so slightly when her eyes met mine. I froze for a split second, then forced a laugh, brushing off the anxiety brewing in my stomach.
“Heyyy… Lexy,” I said, waving and walking over like I wasn’t internally combusting. I pulled out the chair across from her and sat, slowly, as though prolonging the inevitable judgment that was about to rain on me.
Lexy narrowed her eyes. “Start talking.”
I exhaled deeply, folding my arms over the table, my fingers playing nervously with the edge of a serviette. I couldn’t even ask if she wanted coffee. There was no room for pleasantries.
“Okay,” I started, voice low. “So, first of all, I need you to breathe and not interrupt until I finish.”
