The night lay heavy and still, with silence pressing in from all sides.
Under the light hanging from the eaves, Elliot sat in a wheelchair, most of his face swallowed by the shadows.
Those long, narrow eyes were fixed on her now, cold and unblinking. They clung to her like a snake's gaze, slick and suffocating.
"E-Elliot?" Angelica's throat tightened before she managed to find her voice.
At the sound, Douglas and Lydia immediately came out of the kitchen.
Douglas reacted first, instinctively stepping in front of Angelica to shield her. When he saw Elliot's face, every alarm bell in his head went off.
He didn't bother wondering how Elliot had found this place. The usual warmth in his features vanished, replaced by icy restraint.
He said evenly, "Elliot, it's late. You're at the wrong address. This is my professor's home, not the Quigley residence."
Elliot didn't answer. Instead, he shot a look at the bodyguard behind him. The bodyguard understood at once and wheeled him straight
