Chapter 36
Clara gave Ethan a look that practically screamed, "Don’t even bother trying to explain."
“Clara.” Ethan let out a dry laugh, clearly annoyed. “What the hell goes on in that head of yours?”
“Brain matter,” Clara replied deadpan.
Ethan shot back, “Pretty sure it’s all straw.”
“…”
Well then, was Mr. Blackwood calling himself a scarecrow by default?
Before Fiona could even react, Ethan, surprisingly, started to explain himself. “Fiona’s not the type who’d quietly let herself be kept by someone like that.”
“You’re right,” Clara nodded, sounding almost too agreeable.
Given how proud Fiona was—Ethan basically had to grovel to get on her good side—how could she possibly reduce herself to some side piece?
If she really could accept that, then Clara figured she herself wouldn’t even be part of the picture.
But the next second, Clara generously offered Ethan a perfect solution, “As long as we get divorced, you’ll be a free man. Miss Barrington wouldn’t have to play the mistress anymore.”
