"It's a simple question," I had said, fighting to maintain my calm exterior while my inner wolf clawed at my chest.
"I don't have to answer you. She has nothing to do with you." Theodore narrowed his eyes, challenge evident in his stance. "How did you know she's here?"
I remained silent, unwilling to admit that I had felt her pain through our bond—broken as it was—like a knife twisting in my own gut. Some connections couldn't be severed completely, no matter how much paperwork existed between us.
"Who called you?" Theodore demanded, stepping closer.
"I just want to know if she's okay." My voice was controlled.
"That's none of your concern," Theodore shot back. "You answer my question first. Who called you?"
A sudden shift in his expression told me he'd had a revelation.
"Did you have something to do with the car crash?" he asked, suspicion darkening his features.
The question hit like a physical blow. My frown deepened. "I don't know what you are talking about."
