Dorothy's POV
At exactly five-fifty-eight the next morning, a loud, throaty engine echoed through the Blackwood estate's upper driveway, followed minutes later by the unmistakable boom of my bedroom door being flung open like a battering ram.
“DOLLY!”
Before I could sit up fully, I was smothered in the scent of vanilla, hairspray, from my best friend,Kaia.
“Can't... breathe...” I muttered, muffled by the impressive mountain range that was my best friend Kaia Mooncrest's chest.
“Still dramatic as ever,” Kaia grinned as she pulled back, cupping my face between her hands. Her hazel eyes darted over my sleep-creased face, her lush lashes twitching with judgment. “You look like shit. Like a puppy dragged backward through a thorn bush.”
My lips curved despite myself. “Well, good morning to you too, sunshine. Missed you more than I care to admit.”
