"You can play?" Clara raised an eyebrow, a little surprised.
"Yeah, I learned piano from a pro when I was a kid. I'm not top-notch or anything, but definitely not worse than Dorothy. I won't make you lose face."
Clara gave a faint smile, lips slightly curled.
"Clara, come on, play a song! I heard you're getting engaged to Nicholas, show us what you got!" someone in the crowd shouted, clearly stirring the pot.
Anna smirked as she glanced over. "Clara, are you playing or not? Or are you just scared Dorothy plays better than you?"
Tried-and-true baiting.
"Looks like they're dead set on pushing me on that stage," Clara murmured to Nicholas.
If she played well, Dorothy would be humiliated—and blame her for it.
If she messed up, people would laugh and say she wasn't worthy of Nicholas or the Evans family.
