Rumors fly fast, but honestly, none of them cared anymore. Not Sophia, not Lucas. Even when James wanted to step in and explain, Sophia stopped him.
She just said, "James, get me out of here."
"Okay." James nodded, then suddenly swung his fist straight into Lucas's face.
He thought Lucas would let go of Sophia and fight back. But nope—Lucas just held onto her tighter, taking hit after hit without saying a word.
His eyes were bloodshot, his nose and mouth bleeding, and even when he was knocked to the ground, he still didn't let go.
Sophia's heart, long numb and shut down, suddenly flinched.
The image of Lucas promising to stay by her side forever up in that attic nine years ago—it hadn't faded. But what stood clearer was how, three years ago, he pushed her step by step toward the edge.
Showing mercy to a monster only meant dragging yourself into the depths.
She bent down, and without any grace, stepped down hard on Lucas's shoulder with her stiletto. The point dug in, piercing deep.
