Chapter 90

Jason was clearly implying I was abusing my power to treat him unjustly. He was speaking the same way Rachel had before. It felt ridiculous to hear those words. "Don't make excuses. So many employees saw you, and now you want to brush it off by saying that?" Jason narrowed his eyes and said, "What exactly did they see? That woman might have planned to frame me because she knew she'd made a mistake. How am I supposed to prove my innocence when she staged the entire scene from the start? "I'm a married man. How could she frame me like this? What am I supposed to tell my wife if she finds out about this? "I'll call Mr. Ranford right now and ask him if he wanted to kick me out of the company so badly that he came up with this scheme to frame me." He took out his phone, acting as if he were about to make a call to Dad, trying to voice his supposed injustice. "Don't alarm my dad." I cut off his performance. It was true I hadn't gotten any evidence to prove Jason and Rachel's relationship, and Rachel had been careful never to speak of it. The reason I called Jason over today was to test the waters, but he was too shrewd to fall for my tricks. "I'm sure you're aware of how serious things got that day. I'm just following the norm and casually asking if you knew anything. How could I actually doubt you?" I smiled at him and said, "After hearing what you said, I can tell you have a loving relationship with your wife. We should all grab a meal together sometime." I added, "This box of supplements is for your wife—accept it as an apology for misunderstanding you." Lindsey placed the gift box in front of Jason, and he gave a cold snort. "Looks like an expensive one. Thank you," he said, satisfied with how things had turned out. "You're a senior employee here—there's no way I would treat you unfairly. Do accept this as a peace offering. Otherwise, others might think I treat senior employees badly." Just like that, we exchanged smiles even though we had been at odds seconds ago. Jason played along and left with the gift. Once he was gone, my smile disappeared. "Send someone to keep an eye on him." "Yes, Mr. Ranford." Since he messed around with his employees, I didn't believe for a second he led a virtuous life like he claimed. Once I got my hands on solid evidence, it would only be a matter of time before I defeated him. As the matter had been resolved quickly, things died down quickly as well, and people forgot all about the scandal. Mira was confused by how everything had been settled so fast. "Isn't there a saying about letting the dust settle for a while? When public outrage reaches its peak, that's the cue to clarify things. Wouldn't that have a greater effect?" she asked. "What you're suggesting might bring more benefits, but I have my family to think about. I don't want them to get caught up in this mess." I shook my head. In half a day, my personal information had been leaked online. If I had waited two or three more days, people could have found my address. If that happened, who could predict the kind of harassment Mom and Dad would face? The events of my past life were still fresh in my mind, and I couldn't afford to make the same mistakes. More than that, I didn't want Mom and Dad to suffer because of me. "So that's why. Mr. Ranford, you're such a kind person. No wonder you were a doctor before this." Mira nodded, looking at me with admiration. I shook my head. "This has nothing to do with being a doctor. It was just my personal opinion." After I uploaded a video clarifying the situation, those who had spread false rumors about my time at the hospital apologized—with my legal team putting pressure on them, of course. During that time, the hospital had done nothing in response to the rumors online. To be honest, I wasn't disappointed. Given that Dr. Crowell was there, it was enough that they hadn't tried to make things worse.
