Chapter 35 Foster Father Wakes Up
"I'd rather not go," Vivian Donovan said firmly. She didn't want to deepen her debt to Curtis Huxley, who had already done so much for her.
"Why? Don't you trust me?" Curtis asked, opening the car door to load her luggage. Vivian quickly stopped him.
"What is it?" Curtis asked, surprised.
Vivian took the suitcase from him, her expression serious. "Curtis, we're barely more than acquaintances. I'm truly grateful for your help, but once my father wakes up, my family and I will leave Westmoor. I can't repay the debt I already owe you, so please, don't do any more for me."
Even if her adoptive parents recovered, Vivian wasn't planning to leave Westmoor soon. But she didn't want to accumulate obligations she couldn't repay. Friendship should be mutual, not one-sided charity. Such a bond couldn't last. She was cutting ties to spare him future loss.
